Hope he gets a chance somewhere. From article:

Even if he’s not drafted Thursday, Gatens could get snapped up quickly after the draft. Adam Haluska was Iowa’s last drafted player in 2007.

“I’ve already been in talks with some teams,â€￾ Gatens said. “I think it happens pretty quick. (Former Hawkeye) Luke Recker was telling me how quick he got signed after the draft. It was like that night or the next morning, so it happens pretty fast.

“I’m really looking forward to it, just getting an opportunity and knowing where I’m heading.â€￾

I know what many on here say about the NBA and their athletes, but I believe Matt could be a valuable addition to the right team.

I believe he could push guys in practice and fill a nice role as at the end of a rotation. I hope he gets a shot.

Was hoping the Celtics would nab him with their 2nd rounder or as a FA. Not looking like that will happen.

It would have balanced out the draft immensely for me as it sounds like Boston is locked into picking Royce White if he is there at #21.

If Jeff Hornacek and Fred Hoiberg can make it, I think Matt can as well. The key will be his shot. He has enough athleticism and he has the willingness to guard.

Woah slow down there. Hornaceck was an all star and Hoiberg was a much better athlete than Gatens and a better shooter. Just b/c they are white doesn't mean they are the same player.

Gatens shot looked better at the end of last year than it had his whole time at Iowa. Hopefully he has continued to showcase his shot this summer. When open, he was draining them. Teams won't be emphasizing on him in the NBA like in college. He also has a high basketball IQ when it comes to moving without the ball and coming off screens. Hopefully he makes it, finally having a hawk in the NBA again would be so freaking cool.

I do not hold much hope of Gatens being able to make the cuts on a NBA roster. But best of luck to him, it would be neat if he did.

And you wonder why anyone questioned your fandom in that other thread...

You are the only one.

I'm not the only person who questioned the comment and comparisons between the players. Everyone after me did. Yet you have some fixation on me. Get over it

Gatens is not NBA material. He's barely D-league material.

I would agree with this. I think he can probably play in the D-league. Looks at some of the guys who have played several years in the D-league, Sonderliter for example, Kurt Looby. Jason Bohannan played d-league last year. So Gatens can probably play some in the d-league. Will he ever be on an NBA roster? Probably not, but can certainly play in the D-league for a couple of years and then overseas if he wants to.

bro... Reggie Evans.

Bobcats should take Gatens. He would be an improvement over Gerald Henderson for sure.
How could they forget about me? :)

In fairness to Matt, he's better than all 3 of those players. Significantly better than Sonderliter and Looby.

But I think the only way MG makes the NBA is as a 3-pt specialist. And then only if he's regularly hitting right around 40% or better. No doubt he can get on a tear, but he has a ways to go before he's shooting like that consistently.

What he has going for him is his quick shot and he can hold his own on the defensive end. Certainly a better defender than most shooting specialists.

He has a chance, but it'll take some work and the exact right situation.

Some of you thinking Gatens could play in the NBA are just out of touch with reality.

He shot 37% from three for his career.

He would need to shoot the way he did against Wisconsin in Carver every single night to get a sniff as a last guy on a roster in the NBA.

NBA rosters are becoming mostly full of guys who were to good to even play more than a year in college and then at the end of the bench are the guys who were dominant multi year players in college. Its a totally different world.

gatens will get a look with someone. probably wont make it. he isnt the player hornacek and hoiberg were...though he is more physical (and maybe a better defender). he could play d-league but i think his game will translate well over seas that he could be a main guy for a team.

He's more physcial than Hornaceck but not Hoiberg. Hoiberg was pretty jacked.

If I were Matt I'd got play overseas over the Dleague. Get to travel around and make more $$ over there.
