Gamefilm ... did I see this correctly?

Didn't record the game so going completely off what I thought I saw on both the drive after the SUPERsa fumble and the last scoring drive (while still enjoying the lingering effects of my pre-game warmup, to boot;))

It seemed to me that McNutt was wide open for the fade on multiple plays ...
he was single-split wide right against a C-4 with CB playing hard inside, at least 8 yard cushion and I don't even remember seeing the safety in the vicinity. I saw this on consecutive plays on the final scoring drive and was literally jumping up and down screaming "Corner's inside, fade to McNutt, fade to McNutt!" only to watch them rush Coker up the middle.
Fortunately, KF got ballsy and JVB picked up the 4th & 1 on a gutsy boot, with Coker getting the 1-yard TD dive. However, it sure would have been a sweet "nail" moment had they gone to this after the forced fumble (which only netted 3).

2 questions:
1) Did I see this correctly or did I only see part of it?
2) Wouldn't these have been ideal times for the fades -- at NwU's 20 to 25, with plenty of room for the play to develop, MMcN isolated and having outside advantage due to DB's giving room and playing hard inside?

JVB was making an audible call to a fade late in the game, and had to change the formation to get the receivers split more wide. I think Iowa had either a penalty as the result or there was a timeout, can't recall for sure.

Interesting.

On the whole, I really liked how Iowa called the game from an offensive standpoint. They burned their fairly bad defensive secondary early, then went back to pounding the ball, then burned them again. Good mix of run and pass.

The fade is a better choice against press coverage than against an 8 yard cushion, imo.

And, b-t-w, JVB gives a hip-tap audible to Marvin pre-snap when he wants the fade (something to watch for)...

Yes he does, and this has been the call for a while now..might be time to change that up.

Will do, sarge, and thanks all for the replies.

Given it's simplicity and effectiveness, I think this is my favorite play in the arsenal this year because both JVB and MMcN are capable of executing it to perfection, at will.

Davis was open a lot. I mean, a lot. Vandy finally saw that and hit him twice long in one single drive. One for a touchdown. Vandy underthrew a few balls also that could have been 6.

Obviously if we pick up on that the other team does as well and then you might as well announce it to them what you are about to do because they already know its coming. I think it is time for some signal changes!

Agreed. This team has a lot of offensive Tells, that have been getting picked up on. Starting with the ISU game.
