Team can't play defense in space. Either poor rotations in the zone and they leave the 3 point line wide open or take terrible angles on man defense and get beat to the rim off the dribble or get way too easily lost in screens. It seems on man defense that there isn't help and recover enough. Until they correct the defense, this team will struggle to win games. Can't give up 79 points to Purdue at home. It is really that simple.

All that being said, I think the coaches will get this turned around. The offense is fun to watch and it makes ya realize that with improvement on defense, this team has a fun future ahead of it.

Valiant effort tonight. Does anybody else think that Marble should just play pg all the time? I love Cartwright but he is in some kind of funk right now. Anyway good effort hawks keep it up it doesnt get any easier from here.

No...He can't dribble well enough. He could be a very good 2-3. Not bad to fill in at the point tho.

Good offensive game by the Hawks but without a legitimate shot blocker we are horrible at closing out. We did a much better job contesting the 3 in the 2nd half but we struggle with quicker teams that can put the ball on the floor, I really like Fran and we have gotten better since Creighton and Campbell, but the Big Ten is brutal this season hopefully we can find a way to win 6-7 games.

There is no D in Cartwright or Basabe, literally and figuratively.
Cartwright gets beat of the dribble constantly and Mel is always slow on his rotations, he does block some shots and I like that but its mostly because he is slow getting to the ballhandler and then makes a play on the shot.

We don't have good enough on-ball defenders. Just getting broken down too easy off the dribble. Like the potential of Marble, Basabe, White, and Oglesby. Next years class should fill important needs. Gesell(creator, outside shot), Woodbury(inside presence), Ingram,Clemons(defensive stoppers), Meyer(depth in frontline).

I think that can happen. If we can improve defensively, the rematch with Purdue could be interesting. I like us against Northwestern and Penn State, and to split with Nebraska. I think maybe we could steal one from Minnesota at home, too. And I wouldn't be shocked if we knocked off Wisconsin, for no other reason than we seem to always play them tough at home.
