Game Plan for Minnesota

I'd tend to walk Lowdermilk up a lot and either drop back to C-2, stay in for run support or send him. Alternate with weak-side CB creeping in. It's a risk and a lot of ground to cover for guys of average athleticism but I just don't respect Minny's passing game and believe Lomax, King, Mabin can handle it.

I guess alternative would be base C-2, keep OLB's tight and turn Alston loose on Cobb but see risk of his over pursuit and poor angles, allowing Cobb to get to 2nd level with a lot of space. That would not go well for back-4.

Either way, looking to cheat against the run.

Thanks! Not trying to flame or anything, just wondering what kind of look you were looking at. I like it! (Not that you need my approval;))

here's my point. COMMIT to throwing down field. I think Jake Is scared to death of throwing an INT.

Don't mean to be glib... Score more points. 2-0 would work this week. With the projected wind a downfield game might not be in the cards.

As others have said, stop the run. Minny is even less equipped to throw down field in wind. if we can control the LOS we'll win, barring TOs

Cover 2. 8-man box, all crushing to wide-side gap. OLB keep backside contain. Sell-out to overwhelm their rushing attack.

On offense, same strategy as NwU -- starting with challenging OL to play like men. Weisman 20+ carries. Minny will start with cushion after watching NwU tape. Pound Weisman behind Plewa and, early on, attempt at least 1 flea-flicker to Smith, 1 bubble-screen to Powell and 2 wheel routes to Wadley / Parker (Bullock should not be targeted for anything). After they adjust, target the crosses.

Win going away, 33 - 24.

Do what you did first 6-1/2 games, lose falling away, 31 - 21.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner.

Sweet pic. Is that Photoshop or some other software that you are using?

Not bad, minus the flea flicker. I think the trick plays are a bit unnecessary. Seems sort of desperate, and a good play fake will accomplish the same thing. The opposite side defensive end is going to have to keep backside contain along with the OLB, otherwise we'll be seeing big gains on counter plays all day long.

The keys to this game, as well as any other game Iowa plays this year, is going to be controlling the line of scrimmage and tackling. The Hawks have to establish a run game to be successful so they can set up the play action off of the run. Owning the line of scrimmage is a must. Tackling, especially in 3 of these last 4 games, will be vital. We can't afford not to wrap up and gang tackle this Cobb kid, and he's probably going to be the 3rd best RB Iowa faces this month. The Hawkeyes have faced a few good running backs this year, and the tackling was absolutely atrocious.

I want to see a defensive game plan and a performance like Iowa turned in against Melvin Gordon last year. I also would like to request a screen pass from the offense. Preferably a screen to a running back for once, but I'd settle for the tunnel screen.

Yes, Iowa used its once a year flea flicker play already this year, against NW. Normally Iowa saves it for Minnesota. Maybe next year.

Make MN throw the ball. Likely man cover with some blitzes, even against the run game. Fly to the ball the way the Hawks did against NW. Tackle. Run with play action for the Hawk offense. Be Iowa. This will be a slobber knocker, so we have to man up for 4 quarters. Hawks win.
