Going to first Iowa game this weekend and other than going to the game, what are some "YOU HAVE TO DO THIS" events/places to go to/etc. I need to take in.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Go HAWKS!

leave ur tailgate early and walk along melrose street, all the food and clothing vendors along with 10k of ur closest hawk fans. watch the marching band, drumline enter the stadium. and definitely be in the stadium early enough to watch the hawks walk down the tunnel to Back in Black!

Get there very early, tailgate with friends or whomever. If you'd like to watch the team enter the stadium head over to the Kinnick Statue early. Definitely walk Melrose and check out all the vendors on the way. Just enjoy the atmosphere and go with the flow.

Visit the Iowa Sports Museum; ride the train to Kinnick; check out the vendors on Melrose; take a picture with the Nile Kinnick statue and another one in the south foyer with the action sculpture; have a deep fried pork tenderloin; eat a pizza at Pagliai's; spend a full hour in the stadium watching pre-game; drink some cold beer; take a walk through the tailgate areas near the stadium; peek in at the football practice field; take binoculars to the game and watch the line blocking for at least a few plays; and when you get home, go on a diet and lose the 5 lbs you gained eating pork tenderloin, pizza, and drinking beer. Man, you are going to love it!

If you have kids park at Comfort Inn across from the Coralville mall and ride the Hawkeye Express. Free parking, tickets for the train is only $10 per adult (kids 12 an under are free) and a lot less walking as the train drops you off right next to Kinnick near Melrose.

Heck, do this even if you don't have kids.

Get hammered, walk around and eat some food, talk to drunk students and enjoy. You'll have a good time. Oh yeah, go to the game too. Start at about 6:30 or 7

Not quite sure what else to do, I was a poor student. You can see if the Old Capital building is open...

Homecoming parade is downtown Friday night at 5:45pm.

Seeing the team get off the bus and enter the stadium, past the Kinnick statue, at 2 hrs before game time.

get hammered, steal food from random peoples tailgates, puke,....repeat.

Cornell Hofstra slaughter!

Asking a random dude to sell you three beers for $5 is a must any first time tailgater at Kinnick must do.
