Future Hawkeye Drew Cook's Rolling thru Playoffs

Quarterback, Drew Cook lead his Iowa City Regina, top ranked Football team to a
57-13 win over Panorama, last nite. Cook was pulled when his team went u 44-0 in the first half.

Drew passed for 210 yards, on a 8-10 passing performance.
The 6'5" son of All American, Marv Cook IS going to get a shot at QB at Iowa.
With pedigree like Drew's, you would be a FOOL to count him out.

GO HAWKS........
Regina has now won 57 of its last 58 games, 4 straight STATE Titles. Unreal streak.

That is great to hear. But what are his stats on the season? I was led to believe he was having a lackluster year. 8-10 for over 200 is solid, for sure.

Meanwhile in Illinois..

"Usual starter Jack Beneventi, who has committed to play at Iowa next fall, completed just 14 of 40 passes for 99 yards, no touchdowns and four picks in Fenwick’s final two games against Montini and St. Francis. He was benched for Saturday’s first-round playoff game."

Benventi might be one of those peak early guys. After this Sophomore year, Notre Dame, Iowa, and Illinois were after him. But it doesn't seem like he improved a ton after that. He also seems like he might be a limited athlete. Not sure we need a 6" 5' statue at QB, unless he is really good at throwing the ball.

Yikes - I don't think UNI would offer that kid at this stage.

Wait, aren't Regina and Bananarama on different sides of the state? Good job Boone.

They've completely changed how they do the pairings now. They don't care about the East-West stuff anymore. The team going to Regina for the next round has a 180 mile one-way trip.

I understand how it's done, but in the round of 16, they couldn't find someone closer for the two teams to play? I really don't care about either team and don't live close to either, but I just thought this match-up was ridiculous.

The entire playoff format is so misguided. Do we really need 32 teams in each class qualifying? In Class 4A this year there were two, 2-7 teams.

So a team needs to play 14 games to win a state title.

15-18 yr olds playing 3 games in 10 days at one point.

Ridiculous.

I am glad we have both Boyle and Cook coming in to compete with this guy.

Of course they could have found a closer team to play them, but then someone else in the state is making a long-as* drive to a different location. Plus, they also guarantee homefield advantage to district champions through the first two rounds, and do the best they can to prevent district re-matches during that period.

The bottom line is that someone is always going to get screwed somewhere in the process, and Regina being the top ranked team in the state and 4-time defending champion has now "shockingly"
been the beneficiary, twice.

For someone that claims to understand the system, you have certainly demonstrated a very weak grasp of how it works.

This will be a self limiting problem once he starts competing in the iowa program. He'll sit for a year or three and transfer after his redshirt freshman or sophomore year buried on the depth chart.

I saw those pairings and was amazed at all the sub.500 teams and 5-4 teams etc. Making state used to be tough as hell with many 7-2 teams staying home.

I like how they do it in MN (where I live). They play 8 reg season games then everyone plays in Sections where everyone is seeded. Top 2 in ea section receive a first round bye. Higher seeds host. Sections Champions advance to State.

How many games played to win a state title then?

Iowa used to do sister districts. 1A plays 4B, 2A plays 3B etc. Then 1A vs 2B and 2A vs 1B if seeds played out then 1A vs 1B in quarters. However they did away with sister districts because some teams were traveling 3 hours or more in second round on a school night. Now they still try to match up 1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3 without playing a district opponent, non district rematch and staying within 125 miles for the first 2 rounds. It doesn't always work out though as this year teams played district opponents and had at least one non district rematch that was just played 5 days earlier.

There has been talk of moving up week 1 a week and only playing playoffs on Friday nights instead of Friday (last regular season game),Wednesday, Monday, Friday.
