Fry's Forecast Fizzled: KF Confirms He Will Be Back in '26.

Fry said from the get go he was not going to reveal his sources or reveal the target coach's name. He does not have much history of claiming insider information, and I don't believe he just made this whole thing up. But, the lack of any corroboration to the story tells me that Fry's insiders were blowing hot air up Fry's ass or exaggerating the truth. Not the first time a hot rumor turned out to be a nothingburger.

Fitz said that he talked to 8 schools and chose Michigan State. I have no idea who those schools were and the "quality" of those offers but it sounds like he did have some options. Could be he chose to stay in the B1G where he has familiarity.
The other 7 were IL High Schools

Maybe Campbell was the mystery candidate? He was always my long-shot guy I hoped Beth would make a run at, because in many ways I think he is a younger, slightly more modern version of Kirk.

Always seemed like a long-shot for Iowa, but I think we are learning he had reached his limit with Pollard and may have been leaving soon whether Penn State opened up or not. Maybe his agent had planted a seed with people associated with Iowa, just in case Kirk was thinking of hanging it up.

Just spit-ballin' here, trying to get a little more mileage out of the grassy knoll theory.

I am going to guess Lea from Vanderbilt, and I will promote him as the external front-runner for when KF hangs it up. Young (just turned 44 years), has some connections to the midwest (DC at Notre Dame, asst coach at South Dakota St., Bowling Green), was at Wake Forrest the same time as our current consultant Warren Ruggiero (the all-important personal connection), and the piece de resistance, he is a former fullback.

Fits Iowa football to a T. Iowa would have to bid through the roof to get him, he is a very hot commodity. But he has to know that Iowa is a great place to put down roots and make a career.
The start of his career even looks like the start of KF's tenure at Iowa:

Part of the implausibility of Fry's information (not his prediction) is that there is no way this information would not get out. You really think there was ongoing discussions with a guy like Lea, he turns Beth down, and everyone keeps that quiet? Come on.

Again, to my knowledge, Fry is the only person that has made the claim that Beth was pursuing a replacement for KF with one specific candidate. That remains true to today as far as I know. That tells me all I need to know about its veracity. Information does not stay secret in today's world.
