From 1st place with 6 games to go

There really is nobody else to blame. These are his recruits. He decides who plays and who doesn't. He's the head coach. No injuries. Plenty of depth and experience. It's his job to get his players to understand that a BIG title is within their reach. A #1 seed is within their reach. He needs to know how to get them to loosen their sphincters and have fun.

"Insert poor taste PSU Joke"

You mean until you drive the program completely into the ground. Because that's exactly what you would do if you keep firing good coaches.

It's not that hard. Nobody will question your motivation when you stand up at a press conference and say "I expect a BIG Title by year 7". " Those are my expectations." "Any coaching candidate that doesn't feel they can meet those expectations, need not apply!"
If the person at the top is OK with "close enough", that's all you'll ever get.

But Fran is the reason we were in position for a number 1 seed. Our first ever number 1 seed. If we're going to replace him, Barta better be damn sure he finds a guy who can get us into the top 10 twice in 3 years AND not collapse. Good luck Gary.

Bingo.

My opinion is that folks 1) are a little short sighted 2) unrealistic about what expectations should be, given the entire history of basketball at Iowa 3) have short memories about what "demanding we take the next step" can cause.

Not to mention Frans teams have achieved higher each of the last 5 years.

If that's your goal then you got exactly what you want. That's not my goal. If you can't win a BIG Title in 7 seasons, get on down the road. I'll keep hiring different coaches until I find THAT guy.

You're absolutely entitled to that opinion. I get it.

But that isn't what is going to happen. And so here we are.

Then they can ride the bench while I get the younger guys experience. Fran can ride the bench too, if he hasn't figured out how to coach these guys or if he doesn't know what buttons to push.
Excuses are for losers.

You must pisss absolute excellence in your everyday life.

If you always build for the future, you'll never have a present.

Other than Davis' first season, Iowa wasn't even close enough in his last twelve years. Since Lute left, Iowa has only been close enough three times! For around thirty years Iowa basketball has pretty much sucked.

It's actually super easy, which is why everyone wins championships.

You do know that is every teams goal, every year, correct? The problem is, the others teams are trying as well.

You gotta be kidding me. You can't just fire coaches one right after another because they didn't win a B1G title. That's ********. By about the 3rd firing nobody and I mean NOBODY would even consider taking the job.

I got Fran's back. He ain't going anywhere, unless he wants to. And I hope he doesn't.

Anyone who thinks Fran needs to go is a loon. His recruiting is only going to get better. He may finally have that break thru recruit in Cook. My only fear with players like him is they usually have their eye on the NBA and will bolt as soon as the opportunity comes. I would rather have a talented player that stays for 4 years.

My favorite part is how the expectation is by year 7. Because that's what Fran hasn't met. 6 years of 2nd place finishes and 6 final 4s? Not good enough. It's year 7 so you're outta here! Maybe 37 year and 6 coaches later we will finally find one. Then we will have another job opening after he takes the Kansas job.

This post is just rambling nonsense. It's like listening to a drunk Donald Trump try to explain math to an immigrant.

It's so easy when you explain it like that. It makes me wonder why all athletic directors don't do it that way.

Any realistic fan would have hoped and begged for 20 wins and an 8-9 seed to the ncaa tourney before the season started. Same as the football season. Had you not been told how the season would have ended you would have taken 12-2 and kissed your sister. Enjoy the ride. I get frustrated too...sometimes I can't hide it...but this team has you caring...a lot....they work hard. They are over-achieving...and that's not a bad thing. They have proven that they can beat ANYONE when they play well. They can get on a six game tear...or a four game tear to the final four. Will they? I don't know. Can they? You bet your @$$ they can.
