Free throws

That was a perfect storm up bad free throws and turnovers. You're supposed to lose those games but we got lucky and dodged a bullet.

Cincinnati must really suck to lose a game like that. They are a terrible shooting team. We got lucky, I don’t think we even beat Northwestern playing like that.

I only watched the last six minutes but yes if you keep turning it over and miss free throws you are going to lose most games.

Did it look like the shooters were rushing their free throw shots. Too many players just do not seem to concentrate and take their time shooting free throws.

We kill northwestern playing like this if Northwestern was playing bad too. Cincinnati is probably the equivalent of around an 8th place team in the Big 10

The thing with this “we lose to this insert team name here” narrative is not a lot of teams play Cincy’s style. That’s literally what they want to do to Iowa, press them and turn them over. So the point being if we play a different team we probably don’t turn it over 20+ times. Offensively yes they are a little short handed.

On free throw shooting, yes that was bad but I’m chalking it up to finals week, using a spalding basketball (yes this matters to these guys and is a little atypical), and playing in an NBA gym.

I think we will be fine free throw wise. I’d like to see Fredrick take them in the end of game situations most of the time, but Connor and Joe W are good options as well.

I knew things were going well this year. I didn’t realize how well until stumbling across a thread complaining about us being lucky. We won. That’s all I care about as it relates to tonight’s game. A win is a win.

Exactly. When you play bad and still win, that typically means you’re a pretty good team. Now we certainly have a lot of work to do, but so does every team this time of year.

That was a game that Iowa program normally loses. But this team seems to have a different edge to it. All the momentum was going Cinci's way and Iowa found a way to recover and win it. Nothing wrong with winning ugly.

It seemed like we shot below 50% from the line but when I looked at the stats this morning we were 20-30 as a team. Not great but 67% is about the NCAA average. I think we are used to JBo making them all (he was 100% so far this year). We did miss a lot of front ends on 1 and 1s and probably left at least 10 points off the board if we would have converted more of those and made the 2nd one as well. The sloppy turnovers were more frustrating to me.
