Free Throws, turnovers, and ole defense doom Iowa

That has to be the most frustrating Iowa game I've watched in quite some time.

That's the worst defensive game we've played since early in the year. What's with the overhedging? Layups and wide open 3s all day for TCU. Embarrassing effort on that end.

Turnovers were mostly unforced errors and the free throw shooting was awful, even from some guys who you'd expect to make them.

Luckily we shot really well from 3 or we would have gotten run out of Carver tonight.

Still proud of the fight in these guys. Defense wasn't what it should have been but they gave up a lot of points too. Sad it had to end but can't wait for next season.

Also frustrating is we pack the freaking place with our fans, have the top seed, and still fall short. We just can't put it all together when it counts. The players on this team will win their fair share of games, I just hope in the future they break the trend of not getting over the hump when they need to.

We made it further than 2 other 1 seeds. It's not a bad group playing in this NIT. We should pack the place with fans regardless

Agreed on fan support, but nonetheless, Iowa fans show up for the NIT games......we need to take advantage of our advantages. Iowa far to often lays eggs when they have chance to get over the hump.

Tough game to lose for sure. Defense has been sub par all year and we all know why. Let's hope the youngsters take the sting of losing at home to end your season as a motivator all off season. This team could be as special as they want to be. I really believe Iowa is back. Next year will bring out more of the ole bandwagon fans.

Fundamentals.....

Perhaps, first of all.....

Make your MFing free throws, They are, by description, FREE shots at the basket, no opposing players attempting to disrupt your shot....!!!!!

Interior D must be improved. Simple awareness could help significantly. Do not leave uncovered a 7 foot lad anywhere near the basket. I watched, over and over, Vladimir standing near the basket with whomever was supposed to be covering him leaving his post, and then watching him receive a pass, and loft a soft ball toward the basket for a score.....

That, and, perhaps, think about the value of the ball. DO NOT GIVE the basketball away for free.....

Improve in those areas and we will be undefeated on the run to the National Championship.....

Zero turnovers, and nary a missed free throw, plus umbrella coverage under the basket, with the same coverage on the perimeter the entire season, and we win it ALL.....

What hump are you referring to? I'm not sure you can classify a second round game in the NIT as a hump.

I really have a hard time believing some of these guys cant make 50% of their free throws, any decent shooter should be at 70%. And half of their shots have no friggin chance. Wagner, pemsl and Cook need to work seriously no their shooting. That is ridiculous as I bet many on this board with a little practice could hit 7 of 10.

I keep thinking that Isaiah should have had a bit more floor time.....

He is vastly underappreciated on D, and certainly could have helped on the perimeter this game.....

Whomever he is guarding seldom scores, opponent passes the ball away most of the time.....

Should have had him on number 25 all game. Might have made a bit of a difference.....

Simply sour grapes, nothing else

Fran did a magnificent job this season and has laid the groundwork for a dangerous team moving forward.....!

What I mean by "hump" is a Iowa simply to taking advantages of opportunities to advance the brand when they present themselves. In this case, being a 1 seed, being at home until NYC, and having a chance to make a run to an NIT Championship. Yes, it is not what we aspire to, but a post season championship/NIT I think would be tangible for the program moving forward. It is the tangible moments, big or small, that Iowa fails to take advantage of in basketball and football.

An NIT run keeps Iowa in the news. It gives a talking point for next year. But, it becomes now another lost opportunity. I just want to see Iowa take advantage of the moments in front of them to advance the program.

They have talent and they still may yet do this moving forward and getting over the hump, but it has been a long time since the last Big Ten Title and a tangible post season run in the Big Dance.

Poor defense, free throw shooting, turnovers all sound like the symptoms of a young team. They should be better in all those areas next year. It sounds like Nunge and Garza are already pretty good at the free throw line. I'm sure they will have to work on getting into the team chemistry and defense on the summer trip. I wonder if Frans son who is a walk on is allowed to go.
