fran's weaknesses

coming into the season i thought fran was a good coach but that he had 2 weaknesses as a coach. 1) defense and 2) rotation. i will say that i think those 2 things are not totally solved but i am seeing that they are getting much better as we see this team take shape and both should be improved next year.

1) defense - i have come to the conclusion that it has taken last year up until now for the players to physically be able to play fran's style of defense and because of this it was easy to mistake it for a lack of defense. we were not in shape enough to play the physical and tenacious defense he was teaching and it is looking a lot better. in the lick system youu use the offensive clock as part of your defense so you dont have to expend as much energy. but in fran's you must limit the quality shots because you arent milking thr clock. obviously fran's is the harder one and the players are finally in shape for it.

2) rotation - we didnt seem to have very defined rotation last year and early this year as fran was still trying to figure these guys out. this is because many werent fully his because even though he rerecruited them he didnt have time to fully understand their games. now he knows exactly what he can ask each to do and what he can ask those coming in to do. we can question who starts or not but it is really about the rotation of players in a system that is so up and down (as in running the court).

what i used to see as weaknesses of fran's coaching i am starting to see fully come into shape and though things will still be tweeked and adjusted i see just why this guy was able to turn program after program around. year 3 and 4 should tell us even more but i cant wait to see it. all this comes down to controlling tempo and when we do that we will have a shot. msu and osu controlled tempo, no shot without the right athletes. well in 1 or 2 more years we will be able to athletically match teams in the halfcourt and beat them up and down. i see the picture and it looks grand.

Use your shift key guy. It is hard to read. Double space after a period.

whenever i am using my phone to type a post. it is easier to type it this way and faster. you are the first person to complain as i believe others do the same thing. if it is hard to read...dont read it. this was my take on 2 perceived weaknesses of fran's coaching and how he has shown that they arent the weaknesses i originally thought they were.

Love seeing someone taking a stand against the message board police. People need to relax a little.

Also agree with the substance of your OP. On defense, it seems the guys are thinking less and less each game, and their spots on the floor and switching are becoming more intuitive. Early on, we gave up soooooo many dunks off the high pick and roll because our big up top would help and there would be no switch/recovery onto his man. Michigan ran that a bunch right at the top of the key, but now our guys are getting in the passing lane until our helping big can recover.

Just like anything, repetition ingrains everything. It also helps that Gatens has the stamina of a warrior, playing with near frantic energy on defense for 38 minutes.

What kind of phone? Most phones from todays world, will double space after a period and Capitalize the next character.

considering Fran doesn't actually play defense, I'm not sure how his weakness can be defense and rotation?

my phone doesn't so i dont use caps either when posting from it. i didn't know people on here had the reading comprehention of 3rd graders. I can comprehend posts whether there are caps or not, whether the enter key is used or not, if people use a coma instead of a period, or if they use they're instead of their. I always thought I was a bad reader but after seeing so many people on here complain about not being able to read other peoples posts, I guess i don't give myself enough credit

well done

I tried for 2 minutes to figure out how to spell it but i couldn't even get close enough for my phone to figure it out

I'd seen Siena play enough when Fran coached him that I didn't have any of these worries about his defensive strategy or how he handled his rotation. There's no good way to handle a rotation that features guys with limited talent.
