Fran's Recruiting - A Story

With the players we already have we should be very tough for this season and the two after that so although a good recruiting year would have been nice it's not the end of the world. If we struggle next year with recruiting then there will be cause for concern.

something tells me that Fran isn't going to throw in the towel on this years class just yet. It does suck that we aren't seeng the results of a lot of hard work but with a full basketball season yet to be played alot can still change. I'm sure that there will be some coaching changes made at the end of the year that will have some kids wanting out of their letters of intent. Not to mention some high school or juco players that show they are ready for D1 basketball. The sky isn't falling just yet, it might be a little cloudy but lets wait and see the finish product before pushing the panic button.

How is it even possible to project that far in advance?

I've gotta agree with this.

This year? Yes. Iowa will have a very deep bench and play as many as 12 on a regular basis.

Next year? Probably. The loss of Marble, Basabe, and McCabe will hurt, but the added experience of the rest of the team will (hopefully) off-set that.

The following year? That's where it starts getting sketchy. If everyone stays, you're looking at a team of Clemmons, Gesell, Jok, Meyer, Uthoff, Woodbury and whomever else Fran can recruit. While that's a pretty good 6, the Hawks will need more than that.

Now .. I'm fairly confident Fran will get a few players in the next recruiting classes, but to project out that far is a bit of a stretch.

GO HAWKS!!!

i think this shirt is pretty sweet, and appropriate for this thread.

Collins is a guy that grew up in the Chicago area and is now at NW, he is a name and is going to be able to get some guys, but how many and lets see if he can actually coach before freaking out about Chris motherf'ing Collins...if you can't tell, not a fan.

Not freaking out about Collins, just that he has beaten Iowa so thoroughly on the recruiting trail only months after arriving at the worst bb program in the country. Iowa now has some of the best facilities, strong fan support, and a 25 win season....what does Collins have? Urban environment, I guess. ...just frustrating, because I thought that those factors(facilities, fan support and losing seasons) were the only thing holding back Iowa....plus we have a brilliant coach. ...goes back to our #1 challenge in both fb and bb ....recruiting top talent to Iowa corn country....not sexy.
