Frans postgame interview

First comment he makes is "It was an interesting game" Not sure I agree with that assessment but you have to give the guy credit for remaining so calm after games like this. Im sure he knows that is a game we should have won. Seems to always avoid the topic of shooting. If this team could shoot 5% points better I think we have 2 or 3 more wins. But at least he didn't say "That's basketball"

I think it was a very interesting game. Outrebound them by 15! 24 off rebounds and still lose. Insane.

Absolutley horrendous shooting. Without looking it up, Iowa has GOT to be one of the worst shooting teams in the country. Not just bad, but horrendous.

Andrew Fleming, we need you now.

No need to look it up. They're in he bottom 15% in D1.

No mental toughness. Marble is the only recruit in Fran's tenure, that is mentally tough enough. The rest of them would blow away in a light breeze. Im sorry but it's true.

I don't know if this is a good game to question mental toughness. We were behind the entire 2nd half and fought our way back to the lead with 1 minute left. Then some nobody drains a long 3 to steal back the win. I would argue it was mentally tough to fight their way back on the road.

Hawks are mentally tough in that they fought to stay in game. You have to be mentally tough to get 24 offensive rebounds.

Of course, one of the reasons the Hawks had that many OFF REBs is because you have to be mentally weak to shoot horribly game-after-game-after-game.

Good FT shooting team + Bad FG shooting team = mentally fragile.

Yeah, I can't roll em for this one...when the heart and soul of your team goes down and does not return, it pretty much throws everything off. Bad shooting nights for Iowa are not uncommon...but not getting White's FTA's is.

It's not just this game. It basically describes Iowa basketball since Fran took over and probably before. And I really like Fran.

where is that idiot Stanzi**** that said AW is awful and free throws don't count?

busy day... just watching DVR - is Gene Keady coaching? Is Jim Bain reffing? Hawks should have shot 8+ more FT's in 1st half alone. Hard to shoot a good FG% with a lot of 'contested' shots when someone has a hand on your hip as you shoot most of the time.

I can Jon because Purdue is terrible. Iowa has the mental stability of a toddler.

White goes down, the officiating is awful and surprised Fran didnt get a T in the first half. Remarkably Iowa is in the game.

Gesell stepped up and Woodbury played awesome defense in the second half, but still need up in foul trouble.

Where is Uthoff, Jok? For the life of me why they don't live off the double screen FT jumper is beyond me. Clemmons stepped up in the second half. Gabe hit the offensive boards.

If Iowa can't play a complete team game this kind of crap will continue. The defense is shaky because simple concepts escape them like helping too deep.on a driving player and subsequently leaving guys wide open behind the arc. the problems aren't new, but until each player goes all ot every play as some do...sorry let the lambasting come. It is about effort and desire. Where is the fire? Nothing different than last season when one player steps up everyone else stands around and watches. What are these guys afraid of...failure...failure comes by not maximizing your effort on every play...that is what I have seen this season. A few guys, well maybe 3, do this...others now and then in a game here and there.

Rant over.

It would have been nice if Gesell didn't play like he was drunk in the first half.

Pretty odd to blame this game on Mike considering he was the only reason it was even close. Sure it would have been great if he played well all game, but it would also have been great if Jok or Uthoff could hit a shot today. Their poor shooting, along with questionable 1st half officiating, foul trouble on Woody, and AW's injury is why we lost. In sum, on a normal night we pound this team (even on the road) but a string of bad breaks and we lose. That's basketball.

Glad you said it cuz I didn’t want to be that guy. Officiating was really inconsistent and disrupted the flow of the game. Gabe got hacked on a number of occasions in the 1st half that weren’t called, and while they tried to even it up in the 2nd half, it ended up being makeup call after makeup call. That bump call against Jok right before shot clock expired was really weak.

The shooting was horendous. But kudos to the team for taking up the slack and fighting it out without White or Woody for a majority of the game. The other bright spot was the play of Mike in the 2nd half. I wish he could play like that for a full game every game. Olesani was a warrior on the boards. I guess that REFS MADE SURE THAT WOODY SERVED HIS ONE GAME SUSPENSION FOR POKEGATE. Half those fouls were a joke while PUs bigs pounded away all game. We are lucky we didn't lose by 20 when you consider the game was on the road, horrendous shooting and with out 2 of our starters for most of the game.
