Fran's Post Game Interview

Because the choice will ultimately be start caring or forget about seeing the court.

Personally, I'd prefer to see a more talented player with an attitude problem riding the pine in favor of a less talented player who will play his heart out. Especially this early in Fran's tenure. It's about setting expectations and ensuring that everyone will live up to them or else. I'd take fewer wins this season if it meant the team having the right attitude and effort in the future.

All day long.

That's the point. Once you start making it clear that it doesn't matter how lazy/uninspired a guy plays, if they're the most talented option then they won't lose their starting spot, then you're dead in the water.

He needs to make examples out of guys, and Basabe is at the top of the list. I don't care if we play Cody Cox in Basabe's place. Mel needs to figure out that he needs to give 110%, or he won't play, even if the team is worse off for it in the W/L column.

Precisely. If players willing to sweat, cry and bleed for the team are consistently passed over in favor of players who are half-a**ing it, then eventually you have NO players willing to put up an all-out effort.

Like I said, I'll take fewer wins now to make sure the attitudes and effort are there in the future.

What the hell happened to the up tempo we were s'posed to see? It is totally non existant in the last 2 games. WTF?!?

Hard to run when you have one of the slowest teams in the NCAA.

Concern for this team is the best young players are also a step slow on defense. This team desperately needs next year.

He is still chewing a-- in the locker room...may be late for Thanksgiving lunch. A well deserved chewing I might add...

Fran should have had his wife chew the players out so he could go do his radio interview. She could have got as mad as Fran did and delivered a good old fashioned a-- chewing that would have got the players attention.

It is still too early to bench Basabe and lose him for the remainder of the season, however, reducing his minutes as he continues to start to eventually not starting. Sending a message of benching him for longer periods of time may work as well; as he gets chewed on the bench.
When it comes down to it, I hope Basabe knows he is killing his team right now, if he doesn't then there is a problem. Iowa also needs someone with a clue to play next to him...I have been in favor having Olaseni start and Brommer come off the bench, but reality is that Basabe is a complimentary player, or has to have a threat with him to be successful, that is not a bad thing, he just isn't ready at this point to be the focal point it seems. That is why Cole was so valuable, he was an opportunistic scorer and just worked his butt off, I don't see any other big guy with Basabe working that hard.
Cole was valuable in many ways, vocally and by example...that was something I was worried about replacing this season, not his stats. I don't think Gatens is really the vocal leader type, but he plays his butt off. Iowa is lacking that vocal leader, until they get one, more of the same will continue to happen, who besides the coaching staff is going to hold players accountable?
