Fran to Rutgers

Wonder if PJ Carlissimo ever thinks about getting back into the college game. That would be a good transition, from someone who abuses players to someone who got choked out by a player. He had some pretty good teams for Seaton Hall back in the day.

Either way it's just dopey.

This whole idea is.

Look, if a solid citizen and God-fearing man like Steve Alford can agree to a 10-year contract extension after winning his THIRD Coach of the Year honors in the conference with the best RPI in Division 1 and turn right around and move his family once again, this time to the West Coast, Fran can certainly go to Rutgers. #notdopey

You make a lot of sense to me. You are a realist and not a dreamer like most posters on here.

Unlike the OP, I am being srs. The way he has been able to bring Top 100 recruits to Iowa, to gain the respect of his peers and to take Iowa into the championship game to vie for the title of 69th best team in the land, Fran is certainly a hot commodity. The Rutgers brain trust -- whatever is left of it, at least -- would certainly be aware of his ties to and recruiting success on the East Coast. It would make sense for them to move now before the school officially joins the B1G so they avoid the stench and possible ostracization of being the school that raids the athletic programs of other conference members. Certainly they don't want to become the new Wisconsin.

His face does match their uniforms.

Listen jablonies, Fran ain't going to Rutgers. His family is happy here. By most accounts they have settled and put down roots. Margaret's parents come to watch his kids play basketball many weekends.

That said its a very interesting job. The team is moving into the B10 and is getting a hard cash infusion, and you'd think its close access to Philly and New York City would be a very strong pull for those kids especially considering the Big East just imploded.

It's only a couple notches above the Nebraska job.

If you are an up-and-comer, you would be a fool to take it. If you have maxed-out your career, go for it.

Rutgers is going to be in the bottom half of the B1G pretty much forever.

it's a lateral move at best, fran knows he's going to have good teams for the next couple of years (at least) and leaving a job to take another job in the conference is an unwritten no-no unless you're fired

I agree from a pure prestige standpoint, but the difference is Rutgers is within an hour of two of the biggest metro areas in the country who have traditionally produced big time talent.

This right here is reason #1 why Rutgers wouldn't think of hiring him. Anyone hazard a guess why Rutgers is looking for a new Head Coach, an Assistant coach, an AD, and possibly a university president?

The next Rutgers HC will have the personality somewhere between Lichliter and milquetoast.

Barta says Fran loves Iowa HC BB. Was excited about getting the Iowa job. His family loves Iowa.
Fran is building a program and if he gets it to turn and sustain (which I think he can and will), he'll have a legacy in Iowa that will endear him to Iowa fans.

* * * *

Oh, Rutgers is not a lateral move from Iowa. It's a step down or four to Nebraska's level. Just because they have a lot a black talent within two hours drive doesn't mean it's a good destination. If that were true, Wisconsin is missing out on a lot of Chicago talent for some reason.

I think Rutgers is a much better job than people think. New location, new conference, new money, traditional regional powerhouse conference blows up...

The job certainly has potential and low expectations, but there are a few problems to fix. There facilities are atrocious compared to other B1G schools. Recruiting to Rutgers is an up hill battle due to zero tradition. An apathetic fanbase which is located in a densely populated area with many other sports fan options.

I think the Nebraska job is a much better job than the Rutgers job. One fanbase that will be strong if the winning starts. Top notch facilities. Still within range of Omaha, Kansas City, Denver, etc for recruiting. Also, while I am not vcertain but I would venture to guess that Rutgers has much stricter admission standards than Nebraska which often hurts in recruiting the guys you really want.

Rutgers will have to hire a hell of a recruiter that also is an above average coach.

Ruters and Seaton Hall... Learn how to spell you negative troll... you are embarrassing yourself.

I haven't heard anything about Rutgers having high admission standards, and can't think they are that high being a state school but I guess it's possible. The facilities there are definitely in need of an upgrade.

overall I think the public is on the wrong side of things... They didn't realize how bad a job Iowa was prior to Lick, they didn't realize how good it was prior to Fran. Rutgers is a B10 athletic department that's basically right across the river from NYC.

It's a hotbed of turmoil and negativity out there right now. I don't think Fran would want to go into that cesspool. I do think his style of coaching would fit well at Rutgers and he could recruit better the type of players he likes to coach, which isn't the type of player your going to win a big 10 championship at Iowa.
