Fran NEVER actually bumped the ref!!!

so it was total B.S. that he got ejected in the first place...
watch the video closely....Fran approaches the 2nd ref, stop short of running
into him, and the ref sticks out HIS hand and pushes off Fran...

The statement that he "bumped" one of the officials appeared to have been erroneous when it was first made by one of the airheads doing the game last night but unfortunately it has been repeated almost universally when video of his ejection is played. Whether or not he bumped the official is immaterial as to his ejection; he got a second technical and had to leave. The question of whether he initiated any physical contact likely will come into play with any reprimands or sanctions from the B1G and/or NCAA, but I think the case can be made that any physical contact was a result of the official putting his hand up pointing towards him.

Unfortunately, I think the BoneG and/or NCAA will be troubled by Fran continuing to move aggressively towards the official after the first T was given and as his staff was trying to restrain him, and then subsequent to his ejection but before leaving the floor continuing aggressively once again towards the official screaming and pointing at him, again with his staff restraining him. That is why I think Fran will get a suspension and possibly a fine, even though I totally agreed with him giving Eades or whoever the business for the way the second half was being called, which was a total joke.

The slanted homer officiating crap that goes on in Madison, East Lansing and Columbus has to stop, and bully to Fran for emphatically making a point about it.

Very good post, Law....

I agree and have said as much in other posts. The official initiated the contact. I still think this is when Fran went from the "planned" 1st technical rant to the over the top down the length of the floor tirade. It is what it is at this point. I'm still with Fran and not worried about his in game handling of the officials at all.

I like Fran and his style of tough defense and uptempo offense and he is a bulldog who wants super play from his players.

The hawk players need to maintain their intensity as much as fran

Then my question is...Who is the guy/leader that gets the team together in times like that? I didn't notice any of our team pulling together to try and get the team focused....Someone ( I don't care if it's DRM, Whitey, Woody, whoever) has to step up and get the teams attention, and get everyone back on task...Our team seems timid at times...I love the intensity by Fran....'cause damn, someone has to get on those refs, but, in this case he stepped over the line, so, the team has to rally and get back on track.....Time to circle the date on your calendar when Wisci comes back to Carver, and I pray to God that someone wipes that smug look that Gasser had on his face...can't stand that kid, or anyone else that acts like that....At least Iowa has that going for them.....No one ever appears to be that cocky.....Someone needs to step up, right the ship, and rally the troops....

The ref actually PUNCHED Fran. Then what they didn't talk about or show is how the ref kicked Fran in the balls and then kicked him while he was down on the floor. Obviously all the refs fault here, hope BoneG issues an apology to Iowa.

This is a very good question and I think the answer is one of the keys to the success or lack thereof of this team the rest of the way. One would think it would be Dev; senior, leading scorer on the team, the one you'd want taking the last shot (most of the time). But I'm not seeing that in his makeup, at least what is apparent on the floor and on television. There are times it seems like Dev is more in it for ... Dev. Zach seems to have the hard-assed attitude to be the team leader but I'm not sure he's it, either. He's not on the floor enough minutes at critical times to be the floor leader. Mike? Could be; should be; but is he? I don't see the one guy pulling the other players together to settle them down, get them focused when the opponent is awarded free throws, or during timeouts when the game is on the line.

It would be interesting to hear from individual members of the team who they see as their leader among the players.

Ok, so he did not actually bump the ref. But for me that does not change the fact that Fran needs to be under control during those moments. Intentionally getting a technical, seriously? If so he picked a horrible place and time to do it and it cost his team the game. This veteran team should not need that kind of message sent, they should be able to regroup and kill the momentum without giving up easy free throws. Coming out of that timeout they would have had a 60% free throw shooter attempting 2 shots (he made one), you get the ball with a 1 point lead instead of being down by 3.

^^Very good question and I agree we dont seem to have a couple of on court take charge guys, like a meteen cleaves or a Craft.

I would like it to be Marble when he is on the court but he does seem quiet but pretty focused with his skills.

I dont think gesell feels high enough up the ladder to do it.

You may be right that we dont have one.

It seems to me that Whitey has the spine and the experience to step up and be the leader. We sure need one.

hahaha he bumped him. he threw a "made ya flinch" punch at the first ref, then bull rushed the second ref... to which he put his arm up to stop the mad man. Fran rammed right through where the ref was standing.

Wrong on so many levels. Fran deserve what he gets for his actions.

I'm paraphrasing here.

Fran has said he got the 1st one on purpose to light a fire under his team. He said he then should have turned away and gone back to his team. However, he didn't and another official made contact with him (Fran). He made it clear he (Fran) should have handled it differently and unfortunately contributed to the team's ultimate loss...which he never wants to do. He said he (Fran) has to take ownership of his actions.

That's good enough for me. He took responsibility and subtly worked in there that the official made the contact...glad he did. It's over and I just want to get to 3-1 in conference play this week.

Sorry, brah, but we lose by 12 if Fran doesn't get the T there. Badger games are pre-determined and the only way you're going to win there is if your team shoots lights out for 40 minutes and Wisconsin shoots 20%. The way games are officiated up there truly is an insult to the fans' intelligence, but shoddy officiating has made Vince McMahon a lot of money, so why can't Jim Delany play too?
