Yes Uthoff struggled last night but IMO it was because he was taken out of the game. He logged just 23 mins! He looked like a player trying way to hard.
Fran needs to re-assess the practice/workout program

That said I still would have loved a TImeout from Fran to get Uthoff back in the game, he sat way, way to damn long after that 7 min Official TImeout. He came back if I'm not mistake at 2:58 mark after the next official timeout (Fran left 3 timeouts on the board). It would have also given Woody a Breather and he needed it. I found Frans response to not taking timeout pretty damn lame!
I know if we were gassed or what, but at one timeout I thought woodberries was having a seizure.
I don't think his effort has changed. I knew his points per game were still the same, but it seems like he has been a lot less efficient getting those points.
He has. You should get up to speed and listen to his weekly shows.

These are the stats over the last 5 games. The 1st guy is Uthoff. The 2nd guy is Gesell.
I think the majority of our struggles dome down to 1 thing. When we were "Elite" Uthoff was shooting 50% from the field, 47% from 3 and 84% from the line...approximate numbers since I'm going from memory.
When Uthoff plays like a Big 10 POY candidate and All American candidate we're really good. When Uthoff is averaging 19.2 points per game (over the last 5) on shot volume alone we're just another Big 10 team. Uthoff has exactly 3 weeks from yesterday to find his A game or we're in trouble. If he can find it by Sunday we may still get a share of the conference championship and a 2 seed...playing in Des Moines and Chicago.
Again, it is not my intention to put any player down. If Uthoff continues the way he's been playing then we're in trouble. But I'm still glad we had him this year. The first half of the Big 10 season was exciting and fun.
But I don't believe that Uthoff no longer has basketball skills. I don't think he's a middle of the pack Big 10 player...as his recent stats suggest. I think he's still elite. I want to see him hang 30 points on Ohio State and rediscover himself. Then Gesell and Clemmons will start getting open drives to the basket again. Woodbury will get wide open shots at the rim. Uhl will get uncontested 3 point shots. Baer will get open driving lanes and outside looks. Jok will still be good. And Jok's better now than he was earlier in the season. Which means Iowa with a good Uthoff may very well play at a higher level than Iowa has at any point thus far. I'm still sniffing around for a Big 10 Championship...maybe a Big 10 Tournament Championship as icing on the cake.
I seriously thought Woodbury was going to have some sort of seizure. He certainly have his "all." Looked like he was dying once he sat down on the bench.

Being a coach... I see several things that have the attention of the coaching staff but I don't think it is any one thing because there are so many things that are integral within each game, if any one thing fails, it has a combination effect. Each game has a unique set of circumstances that you can only judge / critique after watching the film combined with living the game from the bench. I am not saying that there isn't any facts or good analysis here, just saying there is SO much more to it. I personally am not worried at this point because everything I am have seen has had resolution during the same game if not the next one with one common denominator in the last few games. The defense is the only thing I can say with certainty that from my point of view that can use addressing. Of course it's not that easy to say play better defense but there is definitely something that needs fixed there IMO.
