I'll be posting some of Fran's comments from his media day presser as he gives them...just like for Kirk's weekly pressers, I am typing these as Fran is speaking so please forgive a few typos. An entire transcript will be available later today.

Also, I will not be able to reply to anything in this thread until Fran is done speaking..I would figure this will go 25 to 35 minutes, starting at 2

Team started strong, tough mindset after Creighton, how thos moments impact?

Nobody wants to go through that anymore. What you do there as coaches and players is break everything down, analyze how improve here and there...as that happens, you make progress. You believe in each other. you believe in game plan and philos. If you have character you get better and we did...would have been easy to point fingers..so much wrong not just Creighton game, three or four others..wondering what it will be like...only going to get worse going into Big ten, how will it get better? It gets better if we incrementally make it better..had great senior leadership and great staff...let guys play and improve confidence level....it was at all time low then...other thing was, defensively in those games we were atrocious, but got better...that was addressed directly at taht time and

Welcome fan expectations?

Always. Appreciative how fans respnded to team and me and staff...they have been patient at times through some struggles. I think they see progress. As I have said, I do believe its sophisticated fanbase..have seen great hoops here and can't fool them...if stumble how do we respond? Our players have responded well as has staff. I am ok with it

Consistency, if you get it, potential?

Consistency is key to anything. each player, break them down..the guy that will get you 6 and 4 every night is better than a guy who gets you 18 then 2. Can they consistently reach potential..if they don't, if someone else does that night you are OK. I am expecting more consistent effort per man, consistent on defense...we have a number of players who had more turnovers than assists, that has to reverse. We will play fast but not nuts. We cant be a turnover team. Lot of times team say others teams won't turn it over, won't shoot it early..we are going to push it attack and shoot quick but not turn over. Those are steps we have to make. you can't turn over and not defend and expect to win. If we cut down turnovers, play better defense, rebound better, fewer second shots, be better off

Having rebuilt before, step from now to better tougher?

I think it is if you factor in the league we are in. Otherwise it would be the same. Cracking the top 5 or 6 in Big Ten and no dispresect to MAAC, it's not hte same. Michgian, Michigan st, OSU, Wisconsin, Indiana is presseaon 1...to crack that group is a lot more challenging. They have really good players and coaches and fanbases. we are all encouraged by fact that we knocked some of them off last year. We have to do it again. Only had three road wins, need more. Not easy in this league. Good question when trying to compare.. Big Ten is diff

Once upon a time coaches scared true frosh PG

In particular with Mike, his make up. If you know him this is a strong statement...few if any more focuysed athletes I have ever been around. Similar to Gatens in that respect. Having ability to focus an keep your day in order...the first academic report I received this summer, A, A, A. No where is Mike, not in class, no missed meetings. Nothing but A's, nothing but A's in HS, valedictorian, gatorade player of year, state champ..reason why he did all that...those are qualities that typically differentiate a freshman who comes off bench and contributes vs one who can start and engineer victory on regular basis...we have two players in exact same mold. Gesell and Clemmons..both frosh..can play Marble there, but rather not because I need Dev off ball scoring and attacking on a regular basis. I feel good aobut PG position that is why we brought anthony in...told him there will be times all three at same time. Dev would be three. other thing is they both defend. you can talk about defense, it starts at point of attack. Have to contain ball in transition, pressure at POA..whether pick and roll or motion doesnt matter, have to have pressure on ball across half court. we have to stay after ball, not just once in a while and that is what Mike will do. I use this term with him, he has greatest case of amnesia I have seen..if turnover or miss, it never happened..right on to next play. We oftentimes try to encourage our guys to be like that. You dont awnt mistakes but you have to move on when you do. Real test is what happens after a mistake. Lot of times, more oef the same..in Mike;s case it wont be

Gabe over summer

Unbelievable progress. ANyone who knows him woudl have expected it...his makeup, his work ethic, character, athletic ability...Gabe challenge is he tries to be too perfect a lot of times. Constantly encouraging him to know its OK to make a mistake, run back get board block shot...play the game that way and he is getting better at that..knows what we want from him now..next step is getting on floor and me letting him have ability to play through mistakes. Not get down on himself. We wont get down on him. if he does that, now you have a running jumping 6-10 athl who can guard and diunks everything and can hit 15 foot jumper and effect game with lenght

Cieling

Function of health..we can play for a while. We want to play into March. At this point in time, lot to figure out that starts tomorrow. Figure how it all fits. we have 12 guys I can put in game and I have never had that..and they all expect to play..not easy to get 12 in

Feel like you finally have players for your style

I dont think any question..we do have those players. I think in last few years...my first year could play like that but not deep enough...cant press with a short roster and bench. You are going to get beat. You have to be prudent how you decide how much run to employ. Now, we have enough depth, size, athletic ability and versatility and have smaret players....that guy has to rememeber where to go on every set play, if he is playing 3 or 4 r 5, every offense, every side OB play, every late game play...if you dont have intelligent players, can have all versatility in world but not effective. We do have that...we recruit people who can think game. Not just playing fast here, plan to what we do and something comes behind that...you dont score in transition every time...now figure out how that takes place.

Redshirts?

Good shot that someone will redshirt just due to numbers. But to say who right now doesnt make sense...if someone gets hurt, that will be the redshirt
