Re: Fran McCaffery' Media Day Presser: He Speaks, I type (2p)
Once upon a time coaches scared true frosh PG
In particular with Mike, his make up. If you know him this is a strong statement...few if any more focuysed athletes I have ever been around. Similar to Gatens in that respect. Having ability to focus an keep your day in order...the first academic report I received this summer, A, A, A. No where is Mike, not in class, no missed meetings. Nothing but A's, nothing but A's in HS, valedictorian, gatorade player of year, state champ..reason why he did all that...those are qualities that typically differentiate a freshman who comes off bench and contributes vs one who can start and engineer victory on regular basis...we have two players in exact same mold. Gesell and Clemmons..both frosh..can play Marble there, but rather not because I need Dev off ball scoring and attacking on a regular basis. I feel good aobut PG position that is why we brought anthony in...told him there will be times all three at same time. Dev would be three. other thing is they both defend. you can talk about defense, it starts at point of attack. Have to contain ball in transition, pressure at POA..whether pick and roll or motion doesnt matter, have to have pressure on ball across half court. we have to stay after ball, not just once in a while and that is what Mike will do. I use this term with him, he has greatest case of amnesia I have seen..if turnover or miss, it never happened..right on to next play. We oftentimes try to encourage our guys to be like that. You dont awnt mistakes but you have to move on when you do. Real test is what happens after a mistake. Lot of times, more oef the same..in Mike;s case it wont be
