Fran = Kirk

So you don't have a problem with Iowa letting NW run 20 seconds off the clock in a 2 possession game to take the game clock under 20 seconds.

yes i do. that doesnt mean fran cant coach at the end of a game. If i recall Siena put OSU away in the final secs in the NCAA's a few years ago.

We'll see what Fran has to say about what the bench was telling them to do. But I'm guessing it was a case of a freshman making a freshman mistake.

But if Fran really does equal Kirk, I'll take that every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Just have a hard time stomaching Mccabe making the last pass. I too would take a Kirk coached bball team every year also. Just saying buckle up for the ride =)

Fair enough, and I actually think Fran can get it done at Iowa and get this damn thing turned around. After all the 2 best players (and I might catch hell for this) are players he brought in with Cartwright and Basabe, yes they are better then Gatens.

You will catch exactly zero hell for this. I think that's the consensus of 90% of the people on this site.

Hawkeyescott, I'm with olivecourt, your observation is correct and is the feeling of most fans. Fran brought in some good talent with those two. He just needs two more high athletic type players to go along with White and Ogelsby. Not saying those two aren't athletic, but I'm talking Basabe type athlete's.

Yeah, but there are some out there that think Gatens can walk on water.

I don't know if I'm more happy for being ****** about this loss or the fact that I care this much about Iowa basketball again.

I totally agree, I understand that wing players (or 2 guards) have streaks, but if Fran can find someone a little (ok, a lot IMO) more consistent then Gatens and a big he could turn this around by year 3. Right now I'm giving him until at least his 4th year or 3 recruiting classes to really prove his worth.

No timeouts. Gatens and Cartwright were faceguarded and could not come back for the ball, and coming back for the ball with 3.3 seconds left is not gonna get you much anyway. McCabe had to do something, because he couldnt take a five second call. He is a former HS QB, and the throw was not bad at all. Cole tried to tap it to Stoermer. Had he caught it, then passed it, there would have been plenty of time.

But when you are out there on the court, things go a lot faster.

Why the diss on Gatens?? He was again being guarded by their best defensive player in Cobb. He played a good game overall.

Gatens would be a good player for almost any other team because they have more play makers around him. He's not Diebler from OSU but he is very similar...he could easily shoot around 50% from 3 if he has Sullinger, Lighty, Lauderdale, etc around him...

I think Gatens has played well lately and I for one am glad that he is on the team...He can be a real asset next year when he, Cartwright and Basabe have another year together

The diss on Gatens, talkinhawks, comes from someone that can't see that Gatens would be a better talent on an OSU, as you rightfully point out. It is simply a reaction to what we have now, without realizing the context of the situation.

I don't believe I have ever been so succinct in my life. I had better stop while I am ahead. So, like George Costanza, I will deliver a great line and simply leave the thread (room).
