Fran is Gone

Yeah, I had a feeling this was going to move quick. I think he already knew, I think the players already knew.
 
It was the right decision but I feel bad for Fran and his boys. Fran ran a clean program with very little off the court issues. He just couldn't get the Hawks over the hump. Good luck Fran and hopefully you get to enjoy watching your youngest play ball at Butler.

Wow. Honestly, I thought he would be back. Like, had almost no doubt. So, Ralph Miller, Lute Olson, George Raveling, Mr. Davis, Steve Alford, Todd Lickliter, and Fran McCaffrey.

God willing and the creek don’t rise, I will be around for the next one.

At first I thought it was kind of a slap in the face. After thinking about it, I like to see it as him continuing to show how much he cares for and will stick up for his kids if he thinks they're getting screwed. I think a big part of the T's were cumulative calls he didn't agree with instead of one instantaneous outburst. I got a different feeling about this one than I did when he would get T'd up and/or ejected in his earlier years.
 
Couple of things

Fran is a good coach.
I really wish we could have seen Frans offense with elite players.
Feel like Freeman and Fran had an issue of some sorts. Is Freeman back next year?
Really like some of the latest recruits. Hope they can be retained.

IDK how to interpret Fran's temper, but he went out doing what he loves. Although, in super subdued manner.
 
I really had a sense of this after the Iowa vrs Utah NIT game last year. He just seemed disengaged and indifferent. I was very disappointed in that game to not see Fran go after the officials as they made some terrible calls.

I paid extra money get the seat a row or two behind the Iowa Bench.

At the very least, I knew he was putting the ball in Beth's court with his "my heart and love are at Iowa, not in Indiana ... " comments after the Nebby game.
She returned the serve and called game, set, match.

In my opinion Fran was a great offensive coach and a terrible defensive coach. I think he was a good recruiter. When it’s all said and done in my opinion he was a little better than average as a coach.
