A lot of Fran apologists around these parts. The two have identical win percentages at Iowa (.589).
Fraud went dancing three times in seven years, with a single win.
Fran made the dance seven times in fifteen seasons (including a first four loss), four wins. Yeah, I know, the covid season. We lost badly to Richmond. I call the two a wash.
Fran had an NIT runner-up squad (I do not give two shits about this) and won a conference tournament. Fraud at least tied for second in regular season play (Better than any mark by Fran). He also won two conference tournaments. I see these accomplishments as a wash, and Fran had twice as long to do something of note.
The results are remarkably similar. Can someone articulate why Fran is seen so much more favorably, other than that one followed up the Doc, and the other had to clean up Lick's mess?
Why should I view these two differently? How do you convince yourself that either of these dudes is better than average, or that we can't easily replace Fran with another average coach?
The way I see it, we're looking at two painfully average coaches, neither of whom could get us over the hump in the dance. Both deserved to be fired.
