Former Hawks at Texas Tech

For all the crap Icke has said, I am shocked that this one has brought down the wraith of everyone. I mean the Willies worship that still goes on around here is just crazy stupid.

But don't you think it is telling that the Iowa staff was looking for ways to get him on the field as a RS freshman, in spite of his clear lack of mastery of the offense? I think they believed he had great potential, and if he would have bought in and stayed, I think that potential would have been realized. He probably would have ended up roughly the equivalent of Tevaun Smith, which would be nice to have right now.

But, alas, he never bought in.

Willies showed a great deal of talent and athleticism. It's disappointing that things didn't work out for him in Iowa City. Ending up at Texas Tech was probably best for everyone and I wish him well.

He is in a pass-first offense and putting up some nice numbers. I doubt it will lead to a "high draft pick", but he might get a chance at the pros. Something that probably wouldn't have happened if he stayed at Iowa. Just seemed like his work ethic just wasn't there.

The NFL is pretty good at sniffing out talent. If the kid has NFL skills (speed, hands, etc.) they will find regardless of where he plays.

If Willies had NFL talent, he would have more than 3 receptions in a pass happy offense currently

I think it is a joke the Willies worship that went on around here, and lets be honest you were the #1 fanboy of Willies.

You claimed back in the day that Vandeberg had no business seeing the field over Willies. You love to pound your chest about being right about CJ, can you at least then admit when you are dead ass wrong?

If you think I was the number one fanboy, you're either mis-remembering or my posts came off stronger than I meant them. A lot of people were on and on about how good Willies was but I wasn't one of them.

My arguments were mostly about Kirk having talent evaluation flaws, which I still believe. I also talked about it being weird that a kid who was supposedly injured left because of playing time, then wanted back on the team. Also thought it wasn't that big of deal he wanted back on the team but told the media before the coaches. Those were the majority of my posts on the subject. They weren't about how awesome Willies was. At least not to the point of being the number one fanboy.

The one thing I was wrong about was how good Vandeberg would become. His ability to catch balls in traffic is amazing. A couple things about that tho. While Vandy was staying in one place working hard the last 4 years, Willies was bouncing around from school to school. Also Vandy has CJ. What would his stats be this year with a different qb? Rudock wouldn't even have thrown the ball his way on half of his receptions, let alone fit it in the tight windows. 3 years ago, we needed wide receivers who could create separation. Instead we got a qb who could throw to guys who weren't really open.

Clearly Willies had some issues. But Iowa is a great place to turn people around, so if he stayed and changed his attitude, he could very well have been our best receiver right now.

The one thing you were right about was he did see the field a decent amount for being a true freshman and what receivers we had. It's not like Kirk wasn't playing him.

And wasn't Ickehawk the only one who brought up Crabtree? I didn't see it the first time so I looked back and didn't see it.

Who is EVERYONE? There are 1000's of viewers of this site, and 8-10 people who post stupid shit and then argue about it when I point it out.........Very few people post and it isn't because of me and it started wayyy before me. Like I said, you 'folks' (tiny minority) who shanghai these boards, are a special breed and are apparently 'made' for each other....'talk down to everyone'? What? Do you want me to compliment and give participation ribbons for idiocracy? That mentality is 'exactly' what is wrong with this country and this 'lost' generation people keep talking about.........https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...b9eba0f87d6_story.html?utm_term=.96947a7e54c7

Yeah I agree PC. You can be right without being a dick.

Icke there's nothing wrong with sharing your opinion. It's the manner in which you choose to share it that people don't appreciate.

OH NO!!! The bad man said mean things. I need my safe space...

None of this would have been an issue if Iowa didn't have to go through the KF Rebuild 3rd addition. Under more normal circumstances, Willies likely would have been playing or not have left. We'll never know. Iowa was missing key ingredients to be successful and some of his decision seemed off. Lesser talent does tend to make coaching decision stand out more. Because a player is or isn't playing much is not necessarily indicative of talent. There are many factors including coaches preference (which we've seen at Iowa for sure). Come to think of it Iowa is still missing a game changing receiver to stretch the field.

I know Dean hates the Willies situation but him saying Icke was right really shows how far his blind hatred goes for it. He goes on a long rant about how dumb it is to suggest a Tech receiver could be a high pick because it's been rare in the past, and Dean says he's right just because the overall message is he doesn't think Willies is that good. Can a post be right when there is absolutely no logic in it? I was going to post that CJ might get drafted this year, but thank god I did some research first because Iowa quarterbacks don't get drafted very often.

What doesn't Icke rant about though? When you constantly have to def

Completely agree on the Willies thing. Physical gifts alone does not make one an elite wr.

Someone makes a 'ridiculous' statement and I'm being a 'dick' for pointing it out??? I'm getting off these 'message boards' because the people that 'frequent' them are in their own little world. They think they are the 'majority' off fans, but they are just a VERY SMALL percent of 'fans'......There are over a 100,000 (maybe 200,000 or more?) Hawkeye fans nation wide, but the 40 or 50 that 'live' to post their 'opinions' on these message boards ALWAYS think they are the 'norm' and the majority....anonymous message boards and all their vitriol, are going by the wayside in a hurry...and Ithink they will for 'fan's also....this explains 'part' of the problem (and I see it here all the time)...http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/the-psychology-of-online-comments
I don't frequent here, so I honestly that was the first post of yours i had read, but honestly, yes you are being a dick.

Texas Tech threw for 558 last night. Shimonek came for Mahomes in the 3rd quarter when he was injured and was 15 of 21 for 271 and 4 TD's.

Willies with 1 catch for 6 yards......

Cue the meltdown for Curt Feretz "running" those two out of the program. :)

And they were playing the only Power 5 team worse than the clowns to the Northwest.

Yep. Wasn't he originally from CA? Probably brought too much swag with him. Vandy is a great possession receiver but Tevaun was a better deep threat and Willies I think would've been one as well. IIRC a relative of DWs posted on this board that DW didn't have a mentor as a youth and as a result had some maturity problems. I'm sure that contributed to his lack of playing time. Let's not forget we also under-utilized Keenan Davis and D.Powell.

Personally I think KF has brought in loads of talent over the years. But too often the talent transfers or isn't used properly. Some of that can't be helped, but sometimes it can.
