Cal freshman David Kravish a nice, lean surprise

Sounds like this kids doing pretty well. Woulda been a nice presence down low for us. From article:

While Kravish has been a pleasant surprise for the Bears as a freshman, averaging 6.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game with a team-leading 31 blocks, he has also been taken advantage of at times by beefier opponents in the post.

"He's gotten overwhelmed a little bit in games with size and strength," coach Mike Montgomery said. "David has really taken advantage of an opportunity. He has certain skills. David's able to catch and make the eight-foot baseline jumper. It's hard to put a finger on what he is. He's just successful."

After his senior year of high school in Lee's Summit, Mo., outside Kansas City, Kravish narrowed his college choices to Cal, Colorado, Creighton and Iowa. He thought he was going to be a Hawkeye after visiting Iowa first, but ...

"This place won me over," he said after taking his official visit to Berkeley. "After I came here, I said 'This would be interesting.' The camaraderie with the players here is what set it over the top."

Those last two statements are funny. Yes, Cal is way more interesting than Iowa. And seriously, it was the player camaraderie that put it over the top? It wasn't the fact that Cal is the number one public university in the nation? It wasn't the view over the Bay? It wasn't the short Bart trip into San Francisco, or the moderate weather? Or the world class faculty, or elite student body?

Iowa has a way better town/gown relationship. It is easier to get around IC than Berkeley. It would have been closer to home and he would have played in a better conference.

But can't see how things would have been equal until the player camraderie factor was calculated into the equation.

I am not sure White would have still came to Iowa had Kravish committed to Iowa. It was not to long after White committed to Iowa that Kravish committed to Cal.

Kravish went to my high school. He's a stud.

Iowa had plenty of scholarships for both and I don't think either would have affected the other.

I thought Kravish would have been an excellent player as he could have came off the bench with some size and shot blocking ability.

There are two other freshman that I would have loved to see Iowa add with the three current freshman: Burke and Kravish

Having watch Kravish a few times at Cal, he is going to be very, very good. His biggest thing right now is his weight...think he is something like 210 lbs at 6'10"...once he improves upon that he is going to be an all-conference type player.

I have watched several Cal games to check out Kravish. He is like a Erik Hansen with a little better offensive skills but not quite the defensive skills. Similar body to Erik.

He would have helped us in the paint,but the Pac 12 is extremely weak this year
(record vs out of conference top 50 RPI= 1-33) so he would have struggled in the beefier Big Ten. If he would have impacted Woodys or Meyers decisions,then we might be better off with Gabe in the long run.

I love Kravish: Are You Gonna Go My Way, American Woman... And he nailed the extremely hot Cosby daughter, so that would have been good.
