Forget asking about 2011-2012

Todd Lickliter will be the Iowa basketball coach next year. If I'm wrong I'll headbutt the sidewalk and post a video of it on the internet.

I dont care if anyone transfers, Barta and the UI need to admit they made a mistake and pull the plug on this embarrasment of a coaching staff.

I say Todd Lickliter. If the 3 I'm hearing to leave do it will be no big loss. And again at this point they are just rumors so I say he'll get at least one more year.

Here's a list of guys I would like to see us chase:

Guys that are aging and seem to be happy but are great coaches:
Gary Close (assistant Wisconsin, worked at Iowa under Mr. Davis)
Melvin Watkins (assistant Missouri)

Younger (about 30-40 YO) guys that would bring energy and might want their first head coaching job:
Steve Masiello (assistant Louisville)
Russ Springmann (assistant Texas)

Experienced (hey would come to Iowa having already been head coaches somewhere else) long shots:
Chris Mack (HC Xavier)
Bruce Pearl (HC Tennessee)
Keno Davis (HC Providence)
Craig Neal (assistant New Mexico, top assistant at Iowa under Alford)

Experienced coaches that are maybe looking for a fresh start:
Tim Floyd
Kelvin Sampson (though there is no way we would even attempt to "show cause" before the required 2013 date)
Todd Bozeman

Like I said, I would be happy with any of the guys above; however, this list is mostly just what I would be good for the program, though I doubt that Iowa's next coach is on this list.

Wow, I'm really surprised you would include some of the names on that list -- especially the crooks like Floyd and Sampson. What does that show for Iowa if they would even enterain the thought of those guys.

Also, do you seriously think Iowa would consider a coach with any affiliation to Alford like Neal?

I certainly don't have any better ideas....but I don't see it happening.

That's why I said that I doubt any of these guys would be our next coach. I don't think Iowa will give any of those guys a job, but I'm willing to bet someone will. Also, I don't think Floyd is a crook, I think he got caught up in the culture of USC and had to do what was expected. Or maybe I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't know what everyone here will think about this, but I would love to see Larry Eustachy. I always thought he was one of the best coaches in the country and a good guy. He knows how to win, he's taken care of his problem, and he's got Southern Miss playing good ball right now.

Keno Davis an experienced long shot?
I would say the opposite.

You think he's inexperienced and isn't a long shot? He clearly has head coaching experience (that's what I was getting at with "experienced"), and I personally think it would a long shot to get him to come to Iowa City at this point.

Chris Mack is the head coach at Xavier, not Marquette. And he's in his first year. Not really experienced

I would say the opposite.

Why would Keno leave Providence. More talent to recruit at Providence and he's in a better conference. Plus he's already making a mil a year. Just signed a contract extension and he's originially from the East coast
