For those who were at Carver today....

Never made it to the players. Stood in line forever trying to get my uncle BJs signature. They didn't have it planned very well.

I'm sorry, let me rephrase that: I waited forever trying to get BJs signature for my uncle. BJ is not my uncle for the record.

Did you try talking to him?

Not exactly, just going through the autograph stuff with my nephew. All the other players were engaging and thankful for the love and support. He didn't really say anything at all. I'm not criticizing, as I have no idea what is going on in his life, and certainly don't feel like he owes me anything. Just seemed less interested than some of the other former players to be there. Hope all is well.

Al is a great person...he wasn't always and he'd be the first to tell you that. But he is now...a very giving person who is involved in changing the lives of young people on a daily basis. Al's wife also gave birth to a baby on Friday. My guess is he was probably running on a couple hours of sleep over the last 48 hours.

Always an emotionally draining, rather intense experience.....

And the most joyful experience.....

That, in itself. would explain any perceived standoffishness on Al's part.....

That's pretty typical for how the athletic department does stuff like this. I was one of the first to get through Marble's table, only he was a few minutes late getting out, and he wasn't there when I went through. Spent the remainder of my time trying to get through the line again, and got literally two feet away from him before the handlers were pulling all the players away.

A couple of the players told fans they would keep signing during the game if you came down to where they were sitting, though. I went down a little before halftime, and they all passed around my program and signed it. They definitely wanted to make as many people happy as they possibly could.

I wasn't trying to get anyone's autograph today, but the logistics where pathetic at best. All of the players at 2 or 3 tables with lines that were 100+ people long.

Why they didn't spread them out a bit is beyond me, but marketing is clearly not the forte of the U of I sports department.

People either got through the line and got all of the autographs, or didn't get through the line and got none of the autographs.

A great tribute idea, but very poorly executed.

My uncle wanted one of those posters so bad. He had an original that was autographed that his daughter destroyed when she was a child. I was really hoping to surprise him.
