For those who think Iowa is a "lock" for the NCAAs

Have to call it something, doesn't really matter what it is called. Not even certain I like it, I don't even pay attention to it. However there is always the strange case of Virginia Commonwealth:

Really though, if for some incredible chance (it probably won't happen)...Iowa would get left out of the field of 68...this forum may resemble a wasteland around 6 pm tonight.

It wouldn't be a pretty scenario...we all think we have seen meltdowns...I would bet some of you "real fans" would even be melting down...

Like I said, won't happen...but "what if"...kind of like that show "Life After People"

I'm guessing most people would blame the committee...but could you really after the finish the team had?

All 68 teams get to say they made the tourney and it's not a big deal...but they most definitely are play-in games no matter what they're "officially" titled. If your own fans can't even win a brackets point for you winning your first game well then...

Edit: One more thing...if your coach can't brag up his resume by claiming to have earned a Bye in the NCAA Tournament, they're play-in games...

I am not a big fan of ESPN and how they try to control/impose their analysts opinions on everyone for every sport, but after our current RPI of 54, I really wish the BPI was a major factor. BPI is a 22 as our RPI looks like it has fallen in the last few days.

well on the one telecast they said "the ALL IMPORTANT BPI rating"...what's that?...oh...the announcers were from ESPN?...ah...ok...scratch that then.

I do think that this needs to be the last year that the RPI is used though. It is a dated system and does not factor in a lot of important things that Pomeroy and BPI factor in.

I also think that we will get a break because of Oglesby being out for 2 non-conference losses (ISU and Villanova,). When we were 100%, we were still in contention for the Big Ten before the Basabe illness.

I would think that the "eye test" gets us in with the wins the committee has seen over OSU and Michigan.

I would say the opposite...Iowa passes the numbers/metrics test...but flunks the "eye test" Iowa is not currently a tourney team...but luckily they take more into account than what they think/what it seems.

This thread should be deleted. If the 'committee' thinks they need to 'send a message' to teams like Iowa who lost a few in a row to end the season, then they MISSED the boat last year when they let in a fading like a sick dog turd MN team easily.

You can call it whatever you want but officially the first four games are the 1st round. It will not be long when that 1st round will be 5, 6, 7, 8 (on and on) games so at some point you will have to decide when you want to stop being in denial. The NCAA would not have called the first 4 games as first round if they did not have future expansion in mind. Like I've said in 2011 they damn near made it a field of 96, it would have been pretty silly to call those first 32 games "play in", "preliminary", or "pig tail" don't you think?

I am not disagreeing with you I just think it is stupid to say 60 teams get a bye. Until less teams get a bye than play in the 1st round.

If you look at iowa's resume without any dates on the games then they would be in. Many teams go through slides. Isu went through one, unc went through one, and many others. The problem is when ours happened. I think the committee will overlook the dates to let us in. But the dates will cause us to be between a 10 to 12 seed.
