For those that think Ferentz and staff are beyond reproach...

Pack your bags and move to communist China!!!

These coaches, like politicians, need to constantly have their feet held to the fire. It's how you keep them on their toes and prevent complacency.

Unfortunately, most of the journalists surrounding Iowa City aren't up to the task, lest they fall from the good graces of the Iowa Athletic Department and are denied access.

I'm proud of Rob Howe for asking Ferentz what he did today, but I'm sure he will pay a price for it.

And I would have LOVED to hear Eric Thigpen's comments after the loss on Saturday, but that didn't happen did it...

Now I have to download pod-casts from KXNO to hear ANY criticism -or even critical analysis - of Ferentz & Co.

What a shame...

Maybe the Iowa media will wake up to the fraud that is Iowa's coach? A large market media would crucify him...

What a ridiculous topic and first post. 2 Big Ten titles and several 10 win seasons. He loses a close game and you talk about him like he is some hack.

If Ferentz every leaves or is fired we as a fanbase will regret it forever. He is one of the best coaches in the country and he LOVES being at Iowa. You will never find another coach of his caliber that doesn't view us a stepping stone.

Criticize him, thats fine, but calling him a fraud? And claiming the media doesn't bash him? Ridiculous, either you are ignorant or stupid.

Fraud huh? You guys are gonna sound pretty silly when Iowa gets to the Big ten championship game.

What a shame you are phony enough to put Hawk in your name. You make me sick.

Despite what many think the press only has the same freedom of speech as an individual citizen. They have no right to get answers, or even have the opportunity to ask them.

Yes, because we all know that coaches should have to answer to the all mighty media. **** the media!

What if the media just stopped covering sports altogether? No games on TV, radio. No recaps in the morning paper. Nothing.

Without the media, there's an awful lot less money involved. If they are given the right to cover sports, they should be allowed to ask the tough questions.

NewMexHawk - Iowa's coach (Kirk Ferentz) is NOT a fraud!!!

hawkinn3 - I agree with your second paragraph. And if you think the topic is stupid then don't reply.

theboat - I hope you are right!!! It has been seven years since we've won the Big Ten.. TOO LONG!!!

twinhawkfans - I'm glad I make you sick!!! You're a mole, thanks for revealing yourself. And yes coaches, like any other state employee or public official SHOULD HAVE TO ANSWER TO THE MEDIA!!!

hawkinn3 - I couldn't disagree with you more. But because we live in a free society, one that cherishes freedom of expression and thought, one that thrives by having a robust media, I support and would defend your right to say it.

+10. He has put us in the top 10 four times in this decade. We have two BCS appearances (one win, the other a loss to USC and Heisman winner Carson Palmer), we have bowl wins over the likes of Florida, LSU, South Carolina. He has been national coach of the year, Big Ten coach of the year, put 40+ players in the pros, had a Heisman runner up. The day we loose Coach K will be a sad one we will all regret after we have about 5 coaches in the following 10 years.

HawkeyeMHA - No one is disputing Ferentz's success at Iowa. That is not what this post is about.

I find it interesting that even when the topic of criticizing coach Ferentz is broached, there is a litany of replies exulting Ferentz even more.

For the record, I love the man. But I also believe in robust debate!!! And I support those that want to second guess and criticize coaching decisions. I believe it is healthy and that coaches of state schools, like any other public servant or politician, should be subject to criticism and scrutiny. That's why you get paid the big bucks.

Yeah, you're right, I didn't mean to respond to your comments about not being able to question him. I agree, and any good coach or person of any industry would welcome feedback to get better. And we are all on here to discuss and debat so I'm right with you. My post was just to support why I think he HAS done a good job for Iowa. Debate away! No problems here.

I think KF's response to Howe actually shows how ridiculous it is to call Rob Howe part of a robust 1st Amendment media. If he was a real journalist he wouldn't only talk to one disgruntled ex-player and run with the comments. He WOULD have talked with pro-scouts to figure out why DJK wasn't drafted. He would also note his shuttle numbers, etc that were far below any drafted receiver in recent history. He would also notice how he could never recover to make a play when Stanzi threw an errant ball.

Seriously, it was freaking TMZ.

"Hey Lindsay, Samantha says Paris calls you Firecrotch. What do you think of that?"

Do you just like making stuff up? DJK ran a 4.42 short shuttle, Mario Manningham ran a 4.38 and Early Doucet ran a 4.45. To say he was far below any receiver drafted in recent history is just false.

His 3 cone drill time was also better than Jonathon Baldwin and Randall Cobb's times, just to name a couple.

Fun fact: even if it was a roundabout effort towards power consolidation, those leaders weren't above reproach, either.

I guess you need a new non-sequitur.
