For those on here hoping for a Bob Stoops homecoming...

Neil Cornrich also represents Stoops. That would be an interesting convo...."Neil, this is Gary. I'd like to gauge Bob's interest in coming home to Iowa to take over the Hawkeye program." "Umm, Gary....I'm also Kirk's agent." "Wait...what? Oh yeah...my bad! Nevermind Neil! Please don't tell Kirk!"

I like the stoops crew, except for the incessant whiny one who coaches at AZ before Rich Rod, but he was the red headed one, so it's understand. However Bob stoops star has begun to set. We need someone 10 years younger and who's star is on the ascent, not descent.

Ugh... Bielema

Wishing for Bob Stoops is nostalgia.

He's not winning big at OK anymore. He's not going to win big at Iowa. And winning a little more than KF wouldn't last long either.

Stoops has won two BCS bowls since we last won one. He's still a very good coach, but he's been in the same place for too long at this point. A change of scenery could do a lot for him, and Ferentz, for that matter. He may not win big at Iowa, but we're never going to become an Ohio State or Alabama, no matter who's coaching. Stoops is the kind of coach that could elevate us back to where we once were, which is damn close to the best this program can be.

IMO its Bielema and its not even close. He has already demonstrated at a school in a similar boat to Iowa(although Wisconsin may be a better setup since there are no other division 1 schools in the state but they don't really produce a lot of recruits) that he can win the Big Ten and multiple times. He is familiar with the area recruiting and knows what it takes.

I wouldn't say this if he only had 9 win seasons consistently but he won the conference 3 years in a row. I have heard from other boards he is somewhat of a less than desirable person but he wins. His style of a running game fits in with Iowa and he seems to be a competitor.

KF will be here next year, but if he doesn't win the West or darn close I try and get Bielema back to his alma-mater. I have always been a KF supporter and still very much admire what he has done, but he is 60 and Bielema is young and has a lot of years left. I don't think Iowa can afford to not get one of their own with this much potential.

2 1/2. I'll give him some credit for winning the Big Ten title game against Nebraska in 2012, but if it weren't for sanctions against Ohio State and Penn State, Wisconsin wouldn't have been in that position in the first place at 7-5.

I suspect that Bob Stoops will go to his grave wishing that his coaching career had taken a different course. He had a nice run in the early years at Oklahoma but without question I think he wanted the Iowa job and I too wish that things would have worked out for him to come here. We need somebody younger and I agree that his ship has sailed as far as ever coaching the Hawkeyes. Too bad for everybody involved and the Sooners may want to move on soon as well.

I've been in Oklahoma almost 2 years now and 2 full football seasons. I get the impression that Stoops runs a very clean program. I think what has cut into Stoops' success, a bit, is/was the resurgence of OSU. They were able to get quite a few quality players (and I doubt it was ALL above board.) Having said that, yeah, I don't think Stoops is a fit at Iowa any longer.

Good point, but even 2 titles would have been pretty good. I wasn't sold on Bielema in the beginning but he did well and he seems to have Arkansas on the right path again. I think smash mouth football is a better style for Iowa than Stoop's 4 WR sets and constant shotgun. Bielema is younger also 10 years younger than Stoops. I'm also not sure Stoops would be able to recruit like he needs to at Iowa but maybe he has the relationships in Texas to get in the door but I don't think he would get near the quality of kids he does at OU. Bielema's tenure at Wisconsin is very similar recruiting wise to Iowa IMO.

Why? What is preventing this from happening besides the current situation? As a fan I am tired of people saying, "we are Iowa we will never be better than we have been. We will never be NC contenders on a regular basis." Please explain to me why this is. With the right coach we can get the talent and be the best. I am not saying Stoops is the answer or not just tired of the "aw shucks, we're Iowa and fair to midlin is all we can do" attitude.
