For the sake of things

I have read on here that some people want to see a quick turn around from Coach Fran..

lets look at what he has compared to another recent hire that maybe Iowa should have considered..

Iowa 4-14 conference record 10-22 overall

St. John's 6-12 conference record 17-16 overall

Lets see which team makes the dance first..

Let's not because it's a terrible comparison. St. John's was 2 games better in conference and 7 games better overall.

But much more importantly, St. John's started 5 juniors this year and their top 2 reserves were juniors. That means Lavin inherits a situation where his top 7 all return (9 of his top 10) and 7 of them are seniors. It's a spot where he can win right away but then will have a completely different team in two years.

The thing is iowa could have easily had those 2 more conference wins to have the same record.. i recall a very close game at MSU and one that got away from them at CHA..

yeah the overall record and the age of the players are in st. johns favor but both Lavin and Fran have to recruit... Both schools finished towards the bottom of their respected conferences... I honestly dont like the whole idea that Lavin inherited a situation that he could win at sooner.. Fran can do the same at Iowa with the right assistants and players..

so i still am going to make this comparison

Don't forget that St. John's plays in the Big East. They get more love than the Big Ten when it comes time for selection (see: Illinois being left out, Notre Dame getting a #6 seed). That throws it off a little as well.

So you don't think that returning 7 seniors (your top 7 players) and 9 of your top 10 from a 17 win team is vastly different than what Fran is inheriting. How can Fran do the same thing with the right assistants and players?

Long-term it's fine to make the comparison but for next year it's not even close. Lavin has a team that can make the NCAA's next year. Fran doesn't.

How come they get to keep their top players? That isn't fair. I thought all new coaches lost their whole team.

For the 20th time....Fuller was already leaving. Fran didn't lose him, and while Brommer seemed to improve, he certainly wasn't getting us to the tournament next year.

1. Fuller was set on leaving prior to Fran trying to win him over, it was an uphill battle.

2. How many seniors to be transfer? Not many because they only have one year left and not many programs like putting a player on scholarship for two years so they can get one out of him. Key distinction.

3. Tell me you aren't really as insane as you've demonstrated in the last 24 hours. Please.

How many seniors to be transfer? Only ours I guess.

But geeezzzzz, take a joke. You have to admit it is kind of funny considering the current state of affairs.

But you could change the question and say, after next year who gets to the tournament first. That would be even more fair considering the number of players St. John's will be graduating.

But hey, why worry about the tournament. How about just considering which team will sign a better 2011 class. That would seem to be a fair point of comparison. Right?

As far as the crazy thing I have done the research about major college coaches recruiting success since Lick got hired at Iowa. Actually way more coaches signed strong classes than the ones that didn't, in fact it was 4-1, and that doesn't count guys that signed moderate classes.

Again, it is a myth started on this board to make guys feel better about the current situation. But it is not accurate. FM needs to go out and rattle cages and lock down a class by next year or things will likely not turn around.
