IOWA IS TEH MIT OF LE MIDWEST!!1!
College of DuPage is referred to as "UCLA" by teh locals.
University Closest to the Lombard Area.
Which is why the quote makes sense. Harvard, Yale, Princeton and MIT are the best schools in the country, Stanford comes in somewhere relatively close behind them. Northwestern, Chicago, WashU and Michigan are the best schools in the Midwest and Illinois comes in somewhere relatively close behind them. Did you even finish middle school, Ghost?
I believe Notre Dame and Wisconsin are all ranked much higher than Illinois as well. That would make Illinois less the Stanford of the Midwest, and moar like the Georgetown of the Midwest...except Georgetown probably has a better football team.
Ghost, I think you've lived a somewhat sheltered life protected from Notre Dame and Wisconsin fans and alums. I have not. The only things worse than an Illini braggart are Wisconsin braggarts and Notre Dame braggarts, hence Wisconsin and ND were intentionally omitted from my list.
All this talk of Illinois and midwest colleges brings back some great memories for me. A few thoughts:
1. While Illinois is one of the better overall schools in the midwest, the difference between it and a lot of the smaller private schools isn't that discernible at the undergrad level. Someone getting a random BA in poli-sci or comm, the education received at Illinois is going to be that much better or worse than, say, North Park.
2. When I was in college in the western suburbs, I mentored a group of high school kids. They consistently referred to COD as "College of Dreams."
LOLERZ
I've never heard that one before.
I wonder, though, what "outsiders" said about you and your righteous brethren there at Wheaton U? Prolly not a lot of flattering cracks...![]()
For the most part, mockery of Wheaton is taken in stride. A lot of students chose Wheaton specifically because of the things that others mock. The only thing that really gets under people's skin is when outsiders (and insiders, for that matter) point out that Wheaton has serious race and class issues that don't get dealt with very well.
