Flush it

Yes we took an L against those guys. Its best for the team to flush it here and now. There will be a lot of big games against ranked teams in the Conf, pick up a few of those, and the Hawks will be sitting pretty decent. The ISU game wont mean a hill of beans by the end of the season.

True, but not much to discuss until New Years Eve. The next game is not until Sunday against the mighty Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

You can flush it all you want but this game will be brought up by the talking heads in March when the subject of bubble teams comes up. This one will haunt us.

And just exactly how losing a road game against a top 20 team by 3 will come back to haunt the Hawks?

The Hawks will have plenty of opportunities to make up for this loss in the Big Ten.

Because I'm afraid we're going to repeat the pattern....just like last year.

Pretty cut and dried....either you stick in the dagger and close out a team, or you find a way to lose.

Toss in a bone-head loss like @ Nebby, and you can see why ppl can be nervous about this "automatic" NCAA bid thing.

Lack of quality wins on the road against top opponents. Villanova and now ISU.

It's 2 big missed opportunities of games they should have closed out. They go into Big 10 play now with zero quality wins again.

I agree that nothing is automatic and I dont like the automatic NCAA bid talk.

I hope the team doesnt totally flush it but instead tries to learn from their two losses this year. Both games the hawks had double digit leads and then they had stretches where the offense started chucking up some quick low percentage shots without working the offense to get dunks and super high percentage shots.

And I hope they learn to play tougher at times and drive through the other teams pressure and take it to the rim.

We got soft on offense in the 2nd half against Nova, Nova got some confidence, and hit some big threes.

And I hope they really practice their free throws when really tired and really taking their time.

Lack of quality non conference wins didn't keep them out last year. It was lack of quality road wins in the conference last year. Actually it was just lack of quality conference wins period. If they would have beaten either MSU or Indiana at home last year they would have made the tournament.

The other big difference is Iowa goes into conference play with a top 30 RPI and last year they were in the 80's. If Iowa goes 9-9 they will be a bubble team but they will make it regardless of the non conference because their RPI will still be in the top 40 at worse.

This loss will not "haunt" the Hawks, it didn't even drop them out of the top 25. God lord people have no grip on reality or are just trolls. Iowa lost on the road as a dog to a higher ranked team. Every top 25 team is going to do the same this season if they haven't already multiple times

A win would have been a positive. A loss is not a negative. An ISU loss would have been a negative for them. An ISU win was the expectation. All of this is IMO and based on the likely view of an objective observer.

We have played 4 games that went down to the wire. We beat Xavier and Notre Dame. We lost to Villanova and Iowa State. That's 2-2. We didn't go .500 in these types of games last year. It's not accurate IMO to look at the Iowa State game and make comparisons to last year. Consider all 4 games against quality teams that went down to the wire this year to be fair.

It's true that the Villanova and ISU games are not going to sink Iowa's season, but for Pete's sake, I wish people would quit acting like it doesn't matter.

As someone else pointed out, Iowa missed out on an NCAA bid last year because it had a lack of quality wins, particularly away from Carver. The Nova/ISU games were two golden opportunities that Iowa had to notch one or two of those types of wins, and it coughed up both games.

Yeah, there are going to be a lot of opportunities for good wins the next few months, but it would have been great to have a bit of a head start on a good resume, and have a little more margin for error.

Not to mention winning the Nova and/or ISU games would help with seeding, even if Iowa doesn't "need" those wins.

We would have made the tourney last year if you replace loses to va tech and Wichita st with loses to this years isu and Villanova teams. Then have our best wins against this years nd and Xavier teams. That would have been plenty to get us in.

I guess to put it simply, give us this years OOC schedule last year and we would have been in.
