Fitz Smells Blood

What's the weather going to be like? I'm not so sure they'll let us run the ball quite like Illinois did the 2nd half. Between our patched up Oline and how good they are that'll be tough sledding. So if it's a colder windy day and makes throwing tougher and kicks tougher to make I just won't like our chances as much. I hate being a negative Nancy here...

I'm right there with you. Of course I think Iowa has a chance. If we were completely healthy I'd probably be picking the Hawks to win. As it stands right now I'm leaning NW's way. A lot of guys who we didn't know were going to need to be counted on have to prove their mettle this week. If more step up than not, we're in the game. If not, it may be an ugly day.

Aside from all of that is just the fact that, healthy or not, nothing is ever a given when we play the Fighting Fitzy's.

By now, Fitz has convinced his team last week doesn't matter if they beat IOWA. (which it doesn't, beat us and they have the tiebreaker on us.) And you know how he feels about IOWA. I assure you he does smell blood and Kirk better "get it". We'll see if Kirk really is a different (or at least improved) coach Saturday. "We're just gonna do what we do"... ain't gonna cut it. They better be gameplanning for pressure, pressure, pressure.

If we make them pay for it and they have to backoff and play straight up...we win. If not, we lose.

Does anybody know how many injuries the purple pukes have? I'll bet they have their fair share also. Vitale got lit up by meechigan and probably a few more are hurting. Our defense is going to help us out a lot on this game. Got faith we'll be ok.

If CJ counts as 50% healthy, we've lost exactly half of our starting offense. When you add in that 1 of the 2 defensive guys we absolutely could not lose is out, we have to be top 5 most injured teams in the nation. Pretty crappy luck.

Agreed. If our offense doesn't look completely different from the norm (like it did against OSU in '13) we are probably in trouble. If we lose trying to play them like we played Wisconsin I'll be pretty pi$$ed. If we come out with a noticeably different game plan and lose, I can deal with that.

I'm with Austinhawk. NW is WAY overrated. They sucked last year. Who did they add that is so great that they're suddenly a top team this year? They beat Stanford. Big deal. The PAC 10 sucks. Hawks by 10.

Yes we have some injuries. So do they. The O Line that will start against NW helped us move straight down the field against Illinois. The line will make some mistakes but they will be fine. We need 2 running backs Saturday. The question is who will it be? CJ will also be fine. We are going to win.

We beat them so bad last year, why and how do they become so good this year? I guarantee we wouldn't be shut out by Mich

I doubt we would barely beat Duke either. NW isn't anything more than what we are used to seeing from them. Michigan will lose to a down Sparty this week and the hawks will handle NW. I'm calling 31-17.

Posts like this make me feel better. Eff Northwestern.

Iowa will field a team for the game. Iowa will compete. NU will be hungry, but they will have to earn it!! Hang in there everyone!

GO HAWKS!!!

Conference games all count in the division race.

The following procedure will determine the representative from each division in the event of a tie:
(a) If two teams are tied, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.
(b) If three or more teams are tied, steps 1 through 7 will be followed until a determination is made. If only two teams remain tied after any step, the winner of the game between the two tied teams shall be the representative.

1. The records of the three tied teams will be compared against each other.
2. The records of the three tied teams will be compared within their division.
3. The records of the three teams will be compared against the next highest placed teams in their division in order of finish (4, 5, and 6).
4. The records of the three teams will be compared against all common conference opponents.
5. The highest ranked team in the first College Football Playoff poll following the completion of Big Ten regular season conference play shall be the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game, unless the two highest ranked tied teams are ranked within one spot of each other in the College Football Playoff poll. In this case, the head-to-head results of the top two ranked tied teams shall determine the representative in the Big Ten Championship Game.
6. The team with the best overall winning percentage [excluding exempted games] shall be the representative.
7. The representative will be chosen by random draw.

If one or both of the Big Ten division champions is ineligible to play in the Big Ten Championship Game, then the participant(s) in the Big Ten Championship Game shall be determined by the following procedure:
a) If the ineligible team is tied for the division championship, then the team it tied with shall be the Big Ten Championship Game representative.
b) If two or more teams are tied with an ineligible team for the division championship, then the ineligible team is removed and the remaining teams revert to the tie-break procedure.
c) The division runner-up shall be the Big Ten Championship Game representative.
d) If there is a division runner-up tie, then the tied teams shall revert to the tie-break procedure.

If the championship game cannot be played (due to any reason beyond the control of the Big Ten Conference), the two division champions (using divisional tie-breakers as set forth above) shall be declared co-champions and the following procedure will be used to determine the Big Ten Conference representative to the College Football Playoff:
a) Teams ranked No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the final College Football Playoff poll will automatically be placed in the College Football Playoff.
b) If the two divisional representatives met previously in the season and neither is ranked No. 1, 2, 3 or 4 in the final College Football Playoff poll, the team ranked highest in the final poll shall be the representative to the College Football Playoff, unless the other team is ranked within five or fewer places of the higher ranked team. In this case, the head-to-head results of the two teams shall determine the conference’s representative.
c) If the two divisional representatives did not meet previously during the season, the team ranked highest in the College Football Playoff poll shall be the representative.
d) If the two teams are tied in the College Football Playoff poll, the team with the best overall Big Ten record shall be the representative.
e) If the two teams remain tied after d), the team with the best combined record of the tied teams against all common Big Ten opponents each team played that season shall be the representative.
f) If the two teams remain tied after e), the representative will be the team with the best overall winning percentage.
g) If the two teams remain tied after f), the representative will be the team furthest removed from College Football Playoff, Bowl Championships Series or Rose Bowl Game participation (as appropriate).
h) If the two teams remain tied after g), the representative shall be determined by a random draw.

Fitz is a jagaloon that uses faux outrage as motivation because his team's typically suck. We've won 3 of the last 4 in years we've been below average...I'm not scared of whatever new faux manufactured outrage he might use because it was obvious that when his team this year played someone (Michigan) that smacks them in the mouth, they fold like a cheap tent. They have a QB that makes Stave look like Aaron Rodgers, they don't have a single position group advantage on us and there will be just as many, if not more, Hawk fans there than NW fans. It's not blood that Fitzy smells....it's the wretched stink of his team he smells.

Go Hawks!

Iowa is in good shape even if they lose to NW. Iowa will heal up during the bye week and has a good chance to go 5-0 after the bye.

Meanwhile NW has a good chance it will lose at least once more. they still need to play Wisc, Minn, ILL, Neb. Somebody will trip them up.

Contain Jackson and find a way to pressure the qb.

Run blitz while keeping the edges.

I'll admit, I'm very nervous for this one. But I still believe NW is not as good as they've appeared on defense, I think they are extremely aggressive on blitzing...our OC should plan for that.

As much as we all don't like the grind it out, field control gameplan...that may just be the way to go. Play strong D, wear them down, and power it home in the 4th.

Even if Northwestern wins all they gain is a tie breaker on Iowa. Northwestern still has Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Wisconsin and Illinois to play. Iowa would still have a better chance(better than NW) of winning out with Maryland, Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue and Nebraska left.

You better call Kirk and pass this along. I'm sure he is not aware of all of this.

The coaching staff would not let CJ play at 50% cmon the only injuries that really concern me are the tackles and ott!
