First Time To Kinnick

This is my first time to a Hawks game at Kinnick this Sat. Im taking my girlfriend and we are very excited. Our seats are in the south end zone in section 216. Does anyone have any recommendations for tailgating? We are trying to get to IC at 8 or 9 am. Thanks

I will have 2 hours head start on you....are you looking to pay to park? Areas west of stadium up Melrose...usally $40 and ours at 1212 Melrose lets you use the restroom and good times all along Melrose...last week Melrose was traffic jam by 7:30....better weather this week.

Welcome to Kinnick, I personally am arriving by or before 7:30am. Otherwise parking can get kinda dicey. Hope you enjoy yourselves and the Hawks get a big win.

Parking where I park Finkbine commuter fills up very quickly. I've heard others say the lots they go to also fill up quickly.

We help organize the parking at Horn Elementary. We rarely sell out and charge $10. Its not the closest location to Kinnick, the tailgating is pretty much non-existent, but its a pretty good fallback plan. You can only enter the school from Koser Ave.

Hancher (exit #244) is usually good to go up until 2 hours before game time. Beginning at 2 hours before gametime, there are free shuttles between Hancher and Kinnick.

1st time to a game at Kinnick, then make sure you walk down Melrose and see what Iowa Tailgating is like.

$10 huh? That's what it was last year but this year the "volunteers" have been charging me $20. I've stopped parking there. I can get a half mile closer for $15.

Another option is to park out in Coralville at the lots behind Comfort Suites hotel and take the train in. I am not sure though if the train would start early enough for you though, with the game not until 2:30. The train stops outside the stadium by Melrose. It's $10/adult for round trip. It's always a pain to get out of those lots....just like anywhere after a game.

If the Finkbine commuter lot is full when you get there, we just park down at the actual Finkbine grass lot. We grill and enjoy ourselves down there and walk up to the commuter lot about 90 minutes before the game.

Ofcoarse, we use to just walk up and down Melrose with a twelve pack.. but IC PO-PO ended that tradition. Have fun at your first game. Kinnick will make you look at every TV game differently. The swell of Hawkeye love during tailgating to hopefully singing the victory polka after the game; Nothing beats Kinnick. Have fun!

Saturday is opening pheasant season so Finkbine commuter lot should work for you at 8AM. Always a great crowd there
Enjoy your day...go hawks

We made a mistake and charged $20 for the ISU game. That is the only time it has ever been anything other than $10, and it will be $10 going forward. The volunteers are parents of kids who go to school at Horn.

Getting out of Horn after the game stinks, as the neighborhood only empties out onto Sunset.

Anybody think I will be able to get a spot in the denist lot at 9:00 am or I am off my rocker??

You guys are gonna be scaring this guy! Just drive up Melrose from the west and park in the Finkbine driving range. There's plenty of space (I've never seen it sold out), great tailgating and you get to walk the entire length of Melrose. It costs $15.00. It's a piece of cake to get into but it can be little tough getting out for about the first 45 minutes after a close game when the entire crowd exits the stadium at the same time. I've been parking there for years and we love it. Pull up to the north end and park in the trees. Go HAWKS!!
