First time at the Big House

ICYMI, 60 Minutes had a segment last night on college football as big business, focusing on Michigan, Alabama and a couple other schools. Very good and some great segments with the Michigan athletic director, Dave Brandon. Worth watching if you didn't see it; really focuses on how Michigan works very hard to do it first class all the way, and with a hands-on AD who on game day puts in long hours checking everything to make sure it is right. Just under 13 minutes long.

Behind the scenes with Michigan football - 60 Minutes Overtime - CBS News

Thought this was an interesting comment from the 60 Minutes producer in charge of the segment:

This week on Overtime, we take you behind-the-scenes at the University of Michigan, one of the schools producer Draggan Mihailovich followed for his 60 Minutes report on the fervor, tradition, and business model behind college football.

"One thing that struck me was just how professional everything has become," said Mihailovich. "The attention to detail, how organized everything was-- you felt like you were really part of a business."

And for the players, playing college ball means being managed like a full-time employee. In the above video, you'll see behind-the-scenes footage from the Michigan locker room, practice field, and mess hall. You'll hear from star quarterback Denard Robinson on why college football has become a year-round job.

And you'll hear from athletic director Dave Brandon on the craziest request he's ever received from a rabid Michigan fan.

Two complaints - man the seats were packed in tight. I couldn't sit down without the people's knees in my back and my knees in the person's back in front of me. Also, there was a female police officer on the corner right outside the stadium that was directing traffic, but when she was doing so, she was dropping maybe the worst smack talk I have ever heard. It was painful and embarrassing for her.

Pics or it didn't happen.

The Big House sucks, and anyone that is too dumb to find their seats in a major stadium and needs the help of an usher, has some real, significant issues in their life.

I got a lulz when they asked Brady Hoke during the Bama game day segment when's the last time he ate and a moment of drama then ensued that Hoke had gone the whole day without eating. Considering his portliness he's not a coach I would worry too much about missing a few meals.

Like my mama said...."you can't argue with the ignorant."

Yes, it was tightly packed, but the fans, again, never threw things at me (Illinois, NW), got in my face (Illinois, NW, Ohio State), or were just drunk and loud (Illinois, Madison). Guess I don't like Illinois too much.....
