First half is showing us the high risk, high reward with CJ

Hopefully as the first half winds down and in the 2nd half we will see more of the high reward variety.

My only concern....I hope CJ is not a one trick pony with the deep ball (he will have to do other things and like how he used his feet to pick up that one first down). That said, still like how we can stretch the field with him.

I'm sure Bullock not being in there for blocking is a factor.

What you talk bout? If our receivers catch the ball then theres no question about the rewards CJ gives.

as it turns out...the downside hasn't really been that bad. score is tied. but Iowa has a CHANCE for some big plays in 2nd half which would not be there with Jake.

aside from the pick 6 (which was inexcusable) and the sack (held on to the ball too long) he's been decent, the WRs have let him down big time. He's definitely been coached to take the checkdown though. I remember seeing a guy WIDE OPEN about 15 yards down the field and CJ went short for a 2 yard gain...........greg davis and Ferentz have got to him.

First half is showing all of us that it isn't who is starting at QB. The drops not helping, but 10-10 against Purdue is not very impressive folks.

Aside from the pick 6 Beathard has been fine. He'd be 17 of 21 if his receivers could catch the ball.

CJ looked a little mechanical and stiff at the start. WR's haven't helped the cause with, what, 6 drops? And those are drops on passes right in the hands. But, here is what I liked. From the end zone replay of Hillyer's drop of the touchdown pass, CJ just ripped it over one defender and past another. Honestly, that isn't a throw JR attempts. Perhaps the WR's just aren't completely used to the pace of CJ's passes, yet.

The pick 6 was just bad. No lipstick for that pig. But, I think the WR's snap out of it in the 2nd half and Iowa rolls by 3 scores. The Purdon't passing game didn't look good and if 'Don't hangs its hat on the run game, that plays to Iowa's strength.

I think it is showing Iowa needs to be a pass first offense and use the pass to set up the run. I have to say, JC looked like he's missed a couple of cutbacks, also.

The major reason it is tied is CJB's pick 6. I agree that CJB gives us a better chance for big plays in the 2nd half, but the downside so far is being tied instead of having a touchdown lead.

You are just assuming every play other than the pick 6 would have gone the exact same way? For all we know we wouldn't have scored at all with Rudock.

Sure. That is an assumption I am making. What did CJB do on that scoring drive that Rudock couldn't do? Again, I like CJB as the starter, but the reason this game is tied is on him. Rudock has been known to throw a bad interception as well. But give blame where blame is due, and in this game the blame for Purdue's lone touchdown is on CJB.

Well, you dont think part of it is that CJ is throwing uncatchable balls. JVB used to have that problem too.

The first half risk has been nothing but the WRs. I think CJB had only 3 or 4 bad passes all game (one bing a pick six) and about 150 dropped passes from the WRs/RB/TE (3 or 4 for 1st downs and 1 for a TD). CJB is the guy.

Not surprised he made some mistakes out there...as Miller said, It looked like his first start.

My concern is the overall offense. The running game is anemic by any standard.
