Fire Gary Barta

I'd be ok with it if it was $500k for 10 wins. I might even be ok with $250k for 9 wins. $500k for 8 wins is irresponsible.
I'd say pay the guy a million dollars and give him a million dollars for every game he wins over 6. That way, at 10 wins, he gets 5 million and has earned it. Again, my argument that so many didn't understand (I may not have worded it well enough) is that the amount is what people should be complaining about, not the bonus. Gary could've just as easily just given him an extra 500k on his base and no bonus...and we all know Gary would do this.

I looked up coaches salaries, and most of them make a set amount with smaller bonuses. My post wasn't about amount, but about contract structure. I feel that complaints should be about amount, not structure.

I understand what you’re saying. Lower base salary and bonuses for wins. I support this for sure. The problem is that KF’s agent got him both.

Just read some of his current contract online. See below;

Base of $2,570,000
Top 25, $125k bonus and top 20, $150k bonus
Grad rate of 80%, $100k bonus
8 wins, $500k bonus
employed on Jan. 31st, $650k longevity bonus
University provides 2 cars for him and his wife

Looks like it's a possibility Ferentz could receive bonuses this season totaling $1,475,00.

Is he worth this much? Talk among yourselves.
To the university? Yes, he is worth that much. He puts a competitive product on the field, runs a clean program, is a "good guy" as the face of the program, and most importantly, brings in revenue to the university.

To the fans? Not at all.

I didn't even mention the supplemental payments he receives. He gets 4 payments per year of $370k for each one. I don't know what they're for other than the contract says he gets 4 of these payments each for $370k on 4 set dates. It seems like his agent just threw in some things and Barta and Herrold said sure. These payments don't appear to be football related according to the contract.

The problem is that the majority of Iowa fans are totally fine with it. 8 wins in their eyes is a highly successful season. A lot of Iowa fans would gladly double the bonus.

For me, each year is different.

This year, 8 wins was disappointing. I cant imagine any Hawkeye fan feels this was anything less than "what if".

Many, even most years, I would say 8 wins is solid. Some years even pretty good. Never great. Certainly not worthy of a bonus. This year, especially at 6-0, It was there for the taking. 1-2 plays short each loss.

This is probably the worst I've felt about an 8-4 year, maybe ever.

Win the bowl, it'll help a little.

I don't know if 8 wins has ever been a solid season since the B1G went to 2 divisions.

Can someone tell me if his bonuses for being ranked, are for end of the season rankings? Or did they kick in when they was ranked earlier in the season when they were 6-1? If they kicked in during season, I can see why the late season losing streak, because he already got paid and his only next concerns are getting to 8 wins, grad 80%, and make it to a bowl. Does he have any more incentives to win more?

The points made in this thread notwithstanding, I don’t see how the leader of the athletic department can be fired when arguably the four most visible sports in NCAA D1 athletics (men’s/women’s BB, wrestling, football) are ranked nationally (Football could be back in the rankings this week and certainly will be with bowl game win). What other D1 program can claim that?

This was probably one of KFs worst coaching seasons ever so him getting any sort of bonus sounds pretty ridiculous but that’s why his agent should be running the university of Iowa instead of barta.

4th best team in the worst P5 division in the nation when you had the most talent. And the smile on his face in the postgame media session was pretty sickening.

I am honestly happy he pulled an anti-Kirk on the final drive and went for the win. However, let's not pretend money doesn't motivate people. A win yesterday was worth another $500k to the Ferentz family.
