Holy cow dude. You think we have to beat every tough team we have left which will pretty much mean we finish 11-7. Then you think we have to win 2 or maybe 3 in the big 10 tourney?! You must either think its a 32 team tournament or you are extremely over impressed with the other bubble teams.
I haven't really looked yet. Has every other bubble team out there beat an indiana type team on the road this year? If so I guess we might need to win out and win 3 in the big 10 tourney.
I think we all need counseling. Wishing and hoping....all for it. Realistic look is that we have a bad RPI for a tourney team. Living near Champaign and being an Iowa fans, I've seen a lot of hopefuls not get in. This Iowa team looks and smells like teams that don't make it. We'll all know before very long. Like Kelly said, it's fun being able to argue about it.
No, we don't have to win the tourney. We do need to beat IU or win 2 games in tourney as well as win most all the rest of the games in B1G regular season.
Grade it out:
Beat and lose to Wisky. Slight advantage
Beat ISU - likely slipping rank with their schedule and trouble on the road being very consistent against not so good teams. Very slight advantage
Lose to WS - Gains us nothing.
Close games - don't count much. If they count a lot, the Michigan game looks worse.
It is not my fault the schedule is weak. It is not my fault Iowa didn't win several close games. I don't count MSU as that looked like pulling a wagon of bricks uphill the whole game.
All those who wanted a weak schedule to give them confidence...that's like getting participation ribbons. We weren't close to being ready when things were important. Cost us. The committee has a history of heavily penalizing weak schedules. There is not a history of taking weak RPI teams and very few games (actually only 1) will give Iowa a huge boost needed outside of tourney noise.
I'd rather have the rpi with flaws than the good old boy network. Iowa knew what they needed to do and got themselves in a tight spot.
Dance or not, the program has made terrific strides. Big enough to dance?
