Finishing 6th in the Big 10

Holy cow dude. You think we have to beat every tough team we have left which will pretty much mean we finish 11-7. Then you think we have to win 2 or maybe 3 in the big 10 tourney?! You must either think its a 32 team tournament or you are extremely over impressed with the other bubble teams.

I haven't really looked yet. Has every other bubble team out there beat an indiana type team on the road this year? If so I guess we might need to win out and win 3 in the big 10 tourney.

I think we all need counseling. Wishing and hoping....all for it. Realistic look is that we have a bad RPI for a tourney team. Living near Champaign and being an Iowa fans, I've seen a lot of hopefuls not get in. This Iowa team looks and smells like teams that don't make it. We'll all know before very long. Like Kelly said, it's fun being able to argue about it.

No, we don't have to win the tourney. We do need to beat IU or win 2 games in tourney as well as win most all the rest of the games in B1G regular season.

Grade it out:
Beat and lose to Wisky. Slight advantage

Beat ISU - likely slipping rank with their schedule and trouble on the road being very consistent against not so good teams. Very slight advantage

Lose to WS - Gains us nothing.

Close games - don't count much. If they count a lot, the Michigan game looks worse.

It is not my fault the schedule is weak. It is not my fault Iowa didn't win several close games. I don't count MSU as that looked like pulling a wagon of bricks uphill the whole game.

All those who wanted a weak schedule to give them confidence...that's like getting participation ribbons. We weren't close to being ready when things were important. Cost us. The committee has a history of heavily penalizing weak schedules. There is not a history of taking weak RPI teams and very few games (actually only 1) will give Iowa a huge boost needed outside of tourney noise.

I'd rather have the rpi with flaws than the good old boy network. Iowa knew what they needed to do and got themselves in a tight spot.

Dance or not, the program has made terrific strides. Big enough to dance?

I enjoyed that sentence very much, although I have no idea what the first part has to do with the second.

If you think we need to beat Indiana OR win 2 in the tourney I can understand your argument but earlier you said we needed to do both. As far as having a weak schedule, without it we would likely have to many loses to make the tourney anyway so I don't mind it.

A long post with the same talking points about the schedule, etc. but still no answer for this question. It's like the candidates during a Presidential debate...don't answer the question posed by the moderator rather keep making the same 2 points over and over.

You keep making this same statement and I keep countering that Iowa will have just beaten Minnesota and Illinois and because of those wins finished ahead of them in the standings and 2-1 overall head-to-head.

I'm not trying to be difficult. This is a serious question. What are your thoughts on the fact we will have just swept these 2 teams (under the scenario that has Iowa at 6th and 10-8)?

I did not say that. If I did that's not what I meant. Either or.

Always tell my kids. Listen to what I mean, not what I say. That said, I don't think I said both. If I said both, see first part of sentence. Applies to those not my kids too.

Windsor, if we beat MN and IL, likely their RPI will drop. Therefore not as good of wins. My instinct tells me that IL, Minny, and IA will do what they can to not make this easy on themselves. History proves it. IL beat a Minny team w/o their 2nd leading scoring (I think) and didn't score but 1 field goal in the first ten minutes. Very Hawkish like. There are reasons why all three teams are struggling. Dif is that the first 2 have actually had really good wins.

I do think Wisky and MSU will be tough outs in the dance when you look at their schedules and what they've accomplished. Both of those coaches are hated by IA fans but they get it done. The are tough on players, build a certain degree of anger/us against the world, and operate like a family. Dysfunctional, but still a family.

I've been thinking this for the last 11 games and they keep winning. I'm now a believer...much like Wisconsin. It's about the sum of the parts exceeding the individual pieces and doing exactly what the coach wants done. That has to be it. Right?

It certainly appears to be so tonight. That is not the same team that Iowa played at the beginning of the year.

You are wrong, losing to Iowa on the road will not be a bad loss for either team. The only way it would not be "as good of wins" is if either team dropped out of the top 50 and just losing to Iowa on the road will not have enough of an impact.

I'd still be alright with seeing MSU in the second round. Beating an Izzo team in the Breslin Center is an extremely tough task for any team.

Let's win the next one. This is why this board is so bi-polar, we win one game and every looks into the future too far thinking good things and then we lose and it crashes down. Lets with the next one.
