After rewatching the game a 2nd time
Starters:
Both Mike and Sapp had moments where they were able to get into the teeth of the defense. They made some good plays, but also made errant plays because they got flustered, picked up their dribble, etc.
Jok still goes through his lazy moments offensively but he made shots... that's all I'll ever ask of him.
Uthoff was on point. Phrom to his credit made an interesting switch with Thomas guarding him which worked well. He was able to get into him while staying in front of Jarrod. Not something I would have tried but kudos to Thomas.
Going into this game I thought that ISU would kind of ignore Woody. To Adam's credit, he tried to make himself a threat and took people on and shot decently well. However, there were still a couple of times where he would hold the ball for several seconds without looking to go score. ISU overplayed the passing lanes and the offense stalled as a result.
Bench:
Uhl and Baer both showed a scrappiness in this game which was nice to see especially for Dom. I wish Dom would've looked to take more shots when he was open but I thought he was locked into the game which is good. Baer and Ellingson didn't make the shots they took but I don't think either hurt us badly out there.
Coaching:
Spot on in the first half. Recognized that Niang, Nader, etc. couldn't guard Uthoff and fed the beast. They recognized going into the second half ISU would focus more on Jarrod and ran stuff for Peter who able to keep us going. Got some looks for Jarrod to try and get him going but again Thomas did very well for himself. Offense was inconsistent as a result.
Our seniors have seen plenty of presses. I find it very hard to believe that are coaches wouldn't tell them if they had timeouts (because they have to call them now...) and they need to understand the situation. Final shot by Jarrod was the same play that beat Minnesota in the Barn last year. For some reason, Jarrod decided to fade away on his shot when I thought he had plenty of room to step into it.
Ultimately, there's a small margin for winning and I don't think this game changed any of my thinking about this team. 'Twas a good effort.
