FILA votes on rules changes

Here's a link to a story about FILA making rule changes for freestyle, hoping to influence the IOC to vote to keep wrestling in the Olympics. I really like the changes, both the cumulative scoring and the two 3-minute periods, good for both spectators and wrestlers.

Y! SPORTS

i like this part the best, and college should seriously think about doing the same. they said they would call stalling more, but i honestly didn't see it. IMO wrestling is at it's best when it is an offense first sport.

Dziedzic said the aim is ''to restore the authority of the officials to incentivize the wrestler to take more risk. The onus must be placed on the wrestlers to win the match.''

USA Wrestling has announced that all age groups will start using these new rules immediately. Some of the new rules I like:

* Cumlative scoring in matches.
*Two periods, Juniors and older 3 minute periods, kids 2 minutes, have not heard what Cadets will do, last time the cadets were the same as the kids.
*Takedowns worth 2 points, worth more than the pushout.
*Tech Fall 10 points in Freestyle, 7 points in Greco

Good move by FILA and USA Wrestling. The administration at USA Wrestling has really steped up in the world community. They usually sit back, but with the Olympics on the line, they have been one of the driving forces.
