Coach needs to go against everything he's about and admit that things aren't going the way he had hoped and that Iowa football needs to change. I'm all for Ferentz remaining at the helm. He needs to come clean and admit that a lot of his philosophies need to change.

That is the problem...the original philosophy worked

Hard work
Physicality (recruiting tough kids)
Physical brand of football (what the good teams in the SEC are now playing)

Now we are SOFT in our play and recruiting.... Looking for Johnny nice guy and making sure we do not hurt an opponents feelings....afraid to loose football. Playing the wrong guys in certain positions and not holding guys accountable for mistakes made in game.

Which is an odd thing in reality, because talking to Doyle, you'd get the sense that Iowa still plays like its 2002-2004. I agree, Iowa needs to figure it out. Either change your gameplans to something that meets what you have on the field, or get back to what worked in those good seasons and bring in physical playmakers on defense. I realize its not that easy, but the defense has been soft. Corners play way too deep, linebackers out of position, etc. Special teams is also an issue, IMO, and has been for years. Iowa seemed so good at special teams in the earlier parts of the 2000's, but when was the last real big play on special teams in the punting game?
