Oh I don't think that is the case. I know very well who and where Iowa is. Do you? How do you view them?

From a historical perspective, I would put Iowa around #25. I would put PSU in the top 10. I know your time spent south of I-80 made you really smart, but NW has owned the Hawks just as we've owned PSU. It's the exact same thing no matter how badly you don't want it to be.

All I was getting at in my original post bringing up PSU is that we don't give NU enough credit, and for that matter neither does PSU give us that credit. So from that standpoint it's a pretty even comparison, regardless of whether the teams being compared are viewed equally on a national stage.

In terms of rating the prestige of the Big Ten prior to the reconfiguration I would say:

1) Ohio St
2) Michigan
3) Penn State
4a) Wisconsin
4b) Iowa
5) Michigan St
6) Northwestern
7) Illini
8) Purdue
9) Minnesota
10) Indiana

So yes, I would say that on average, Iowa beating Penn State is fairly close to the Iowa-Northwestern.

NW hasn't won a bowl game in like 60 years. I'm not sure you can put them at number 6.

Northwestern #6?? Now that is funny..

Northwestern is either #10 or #11. Just saying..

Also Iowa is in 3rd without question.. I'm basing my opinion on what Penn State has done since joining the league.. IMO should look this way Wisconsin 4a and Penn State 4b.

As much as I hate to say, Wisconsin should be ahead of Iowa. 3 Rose Bowl wins > 1 Orange Bowl win.

And where do you put NW in your "historical list"? You didn't say.

If, and I am just going with your hypothetical opinion based ranking of Iowa and Penn State, you want to put Iowa at 25 and Penn State at 10 I would say that is a lot closer in comparison to each other than Iowa to Northwestern therefore my point is Penn State losing to Iowa is not near as big of a deal as Iowa losing to NW in terms of who should beat who. Let me put this in a nutshell so you follow....Iowa shouldn't be losing to NW. Period. The end.

p.s. I will take being south of I-80 vs Urbansmell(dale) :)

I'm looking at recent history (past couple decades) as opposed to total. Pretty hard to make an argument that Northwestern is 10-11 when they have finished no lower than 8th under Fitzgerald. They've also had 3 1st place finishes in the Big Big Ten since '95.

If we're looking at total history, the Gophers would be ahead of Iowa since they've actually won multiple nat'l championships and Iowa used to be a southern doormat to them to wipe their feet on for several decades.

So we can say Northwestern is 10th to 11th like you pointed and do it for total history and put Iowa behind Minnesota which I don't find relevant. You can't have it both ways. So how funny is that now to you?

All-time records:
Minnesota - 635–454–44 (.580)
Iowa - 581–512–39 (.530)

All-Americans
Minnesota - 33
Iowa - 20

Iowa's at best 5th in the B10 pre-Nebraska. It's been like half a century bince we won a bowl game that mattered - sorry, but punking the ACC champion in the Orange Bowl means nothing - the Orange Bowl meant something back when it was Miami-Nebraska, etc., but now that it is represented by a terrible ACC champ or Big Least champ it means absolutely nothing. If the Orange Bowl meant something it would have been a sellout or close to it, they wouldn't have tarped over a quarter of the seats.

Sure, Iowa has a great run in prestigious bowls such as the Outback Blooming Onion Bowl and the Insight Bowl. But in terms of bowl games that matter, Northwestern has been to the Rose Bowl more recently than Iowa and their last Rose Bowl win wasn't that much further back than Iowa's last Rose Bowl win. Iowa's at best a second tier Big Ten team. Iowa regularly finds ways to lose and continually has problems against teams like Indiana, Northwestern, Minnesota, Illinois and Western Michigan. The top teams (Michigan before Rodriguez blew them up and notwithstanding the Appy State fluke), OSU and PSU simply don't consistently get punked by teams like Indiana and Northwestern. Face facts guys, Iowa's program is prolly closer to Minnesota (the bottom) than it is to Ohio State (the top). We lose O'Keefe and we prolly are Minnesota. Get a real d-coordinator who can contain powerful offenses like NU's and Minnesota's and we're prolly pretty close to OSU.

Just wait til' O'Keefe takes over after KF retires. His spread offense will destroy teams. Defense won't matter.

I'd put NW somewhere near 45, making Iowa the mean.

I just love how OKFP walks the fan line between Iowa and NW. He has to talk out of both sides of his mouth. I can't keep up with what team he is talking about when he uses "we" in a sentence.
You are not a true Iowa fan because a true Iowa fan would not make light of the Orange Bowl victory saying because it came against an ACC team.

Please, from this point forward, do not us the word "we" when referring to Iowa because you sir are not an Iowa fan.

Whenever I use "we" I mean "us" as in the Hawks. Lifelong Hawk fan.

OK4P has no shame. Thus, calling him out is a futile exercise.

Look pal. I love to crush beers on Saturday mornings before ballgames. I can't always make it all the way to IC and I can be at Ryan Field with just a quick ride on the Purple Line. I picked up NU season tickets for next year, but I'll sport the black and gold every Saturday no matter where I am. There is one overlapping home game (on which day, work permitting, I'll be in IC) and I already have tickets for the Iowa-Iowa State game over in Wal-Mart so I'll miss the NU home opener.

I got 40 yard line season tickets for $200 a seat and I love B10 football, so I pulled the trigger. Plus, I'll have priority for single game seats next year and I will prolly make like 10 grand off the Iowa and Nebraska games when I buy as much of the allotment as they'll sell me and if there's another game at Wrigley, I'll make a small fortune selling those tickets, too. You guys should make nice with me, I might only charge you $50 over face for the Iowa tickets in 2012.
