Ferentz versus Fitzgerald

I am still steamed that Iowa lost the "OK4P loyalty battle royale" with Northwestern, but now that I am going to be a cats season ticket holder, I want to reiterate something that you "Ferentz is god" Kool Aid drinkers seem to be missing when you go on and on about Ferentz being so awesome:

2006 (throwing out noncon because Fitz got tossed into job with death of Walker right before season)
Iowa 2-6 big ten
NU 2-6 big ten

2007
Iowa 6-6
NU 6-6

2008
Iowa 9-4
NU 9-4

2009
Iowa 11-2
NU 8-5

2010 through this week
Iowa 7-3
NU 7-3

Head to head - Fitz 4, Ferentz 1

Ferentz has THREE MORE WINS but has taken out 8 figures more in compensation during that time - and oh yeah, anyone care to wager which team has more arrests in the relevant timeframe? NU has higher academic requirements and materially worse facilities to boot.

I get it that no one wants to say anything bad about the captain, but for him to have three more wins than NU in that time frame given his salary is nothing short of unacceptable in my opinion and the same old "we need to tighten up a few things and we'll be fine" answer that he keeps giving to the media week in and week out after these unacceptable losses has to be replaced with some sort of action to remediate the clear weaknesses in the game coaching Iowa has seen.

Why not? His ROI is going to be far superior to what it would be if he remains a Hawk fan.

I'm still a Hawk fan. I'm just done traveling 7 or 8 hours depending on traffic and paying close to $1500/year for 2 season tix to watch a Big Ten program that is basically the same quality product as Northwestern is putting on the field that I can go watch for a third of the price with minimal effort to get to the stadium. I also like the fact that NU players don't get arrested at nearly the same clip as Iowa players.

Edited.

I'll take Ferentz anyday. I don't think he is the greatest coach in the world but I would say he is a better coach than Fitzgerald. Iowa competes with the best teams and beats them. NU beats the bottom teams they should to get their wins, Iowa is the only program better than NU that they have consistantly beaten over that time frame. NU gets 4 nonconference wins a year against crap teams then wins 3 big ten games.

I wish Ferentz would develop more of a killer instinct and show some damn emotion though. That is the one thing that drives me nuts about him.

NU has also done reasonably well against Wisconsin, but this year they will get killed by Wisconsin since Persa's done.

Fitz had some boneheaded calls against MSU and Purdue and NU probably should have won those games. Granted, Iowa does generally play one harder game than NU a year. But with the bad facilities and tough academic requirements, NU should have a record resembling Duke or Vanderbilt, as those are the two most relevant peer schools to NU in BCS conferences, but for some reason, they are pretty dang close to Iowa and not their doormat small private school counterparts in the SEC and ACC. Fitz >>>>> Ferentz.

Football is the sport at NU so their resources go towards football. At Duke and at Vanderbilt football is not the sport so no one cares which makes it tough for those teams to compete no matter who their coach is. At NU football has been their sport for awhile now and get a lot of support in their community. Fitzgerald didn't build up NU to be where it is. Barnett and Walker did. Fitzgerald has done a good job keeping it a 6-7 win program. Ferentz completely built this program up, won big ten titles, finished in the top 10 multiple times, and played in BCS bowl. I will take Ferentz. Just cuz Fitzgerald wins with his smart kids doesn't mean he would win with the players on Iowa's or Wisconsin's rosters.

This is such a subjective opinion that can never be quantified. You can have fitzgerald and I can have ferentz

Evidence does not support this. KF has tremendous advantage and arguably produces less 'with more' than Fitzgerald. Take a critical look at this.. Iowa is the other Northwestern. I thought we were on a different level but we just aren't

I though the rest of my post gave reasons. The evidence doesn't support that Fitzgerald is a better coach either. Because NU beat Iowa 5 out of 6 or whatever it is. Ferentz has beaten Penn State how many?? and you will never ever hear anyone from now until eternity say that KF was a better football coach than JP. It is all subjective.

I think it's just a case of "they/he has Iowa's/Ferentz's number".

Jon said it best on Soundoff yesterday when he mentioned Penn St fans probably say the same things we are saying following their losses to Iowa

could be worse

Why don't you celebrate your newfound NU fandom by transferring over to their boards? The sooner the better...

I thought this Saturday as well. I think the small difference is that they play more our style of ball and we just beat them man up. NW beats us by taking what we give them, and we don't do anything at all to change that. why not do something different? Make them beat us deep. I would take 5 and 6 yard pass plays all day. This is probably just the spin in my own mind though.

How many more times do we have to see Iowa lose to Northwestern before people wake up and realize Fitz is a better coach than Ferentz?

How many top 10 finishes does fitzy have for NU in the past 10 years and or BCS appearances?

dunno, but he's now 8-5 vs kirky.

but how many wins in big games does kirky have? i'm not talking about beating UM or PSU when they're ranked and we're hovering around .500. i'm talking about when the season is on the line, when the championship is at hand, when IOWA is favored...we all have 2015 until the championship was at hand. 12-0 wound up meaning zip and then we got completely embarrassed in the Rose Bowl and 12-0 meant even less.
