Ferentz Reaffirms Commitment to Iowa

9:51pm. This isn't a release designed to end negative recruiting, you could do that in the morning, and frankly you could write a much better release. This release is half assed. To me it smells like something that was slapped together to either stop, or counter, a story that's was going to be written (or still may be written) for tomorrows paper.

Someone called for comment on a report that KF was leaving and they put out this.

I dont know if this theory is right but its the only thing that makes sense.

CAAR might also be correct that we need to acknowledge how bad the Iowa PR department is. Maybe they think its normal to release this statement that appears to be written by a 7th grader at 951 pm

Either way, this has been a weird day.

Was Kurt on the grassy knoll?

Dude think about it. ten pm is press time. 9ish would be the exact time barta would get the courtesy call saying "hey we are gonna run this tomorrow but I wanted to give you advanced notice out of courtesy, care to comment?"

why couldn't he confirm this on December 4th to ensure recruits he was staying. maybe he actually thought about going to KC ...

He did:

Ferentz: ‘I’ll be coaching at Iowa next year’

“Am I a candidate at Penn State? I’ll be coaching at Iowa next year,†Ferentz said during a press conference Sunday night announcing the Hawkeyes’ trip to play Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl.

“Year 14 coming up,†he said. “As long as Iowa will have me, I’m here.â€

And then two days ago:

Casserly: Kirk Ferentz 'staying at Iowa' in 2012

But CBS Sports Charley Casserly reported on Sunday during The NFL Today that Ferentz is not going to be a candidate for the Chiefs job in 2012.

"One name rumored for the job that will not be there is Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz," Casserly told James Brown Sunday. "I talked to him this week and he's staying at Iowa. I would not be totally surprised if Romeo Crennel is the head coach next year."

A lot of coaches fully intend to remain where they're at... right up until they take the next job offer.

This 'press release' is a head-scratcher.

You take the "I'm committed here./I'll stay as long as they'll have me./etc." talk with a grain of salt.

You don't typically openly announce that you're shopping around unless you know you've got a place to land. Using those rumors as leverage to earn a raise for yourself and your assistants is one thing. But if you're ACTUALLY looking at the possibility of taking another job, you don't publicize it (typically).

I don't think he's leaving. But his statements of commitment aren't what lead me to believe that.

Personally I think those that are looking at other jobs be it college or NFL are barking up the wrong tree. The most important comment on this thread might be, and I'm paraphrase here, " I'm happy to be Iowa's coach as long as they'll have me."

I firmly believe he meant that from the bottom of his very genuine heart.

I have to tell you this or should I say "these" message boards have truly taken on a life of their own.

I mean honestly, he needs to say something..."oh gee it should have been better than that"

Ferentz is never direct or "wow is that way to direct"

I can't help but literally shake my head in disbelief. And we worry about and question him? Seriously........?! I mean seriously?!

It was brief, poignant and no nonsense. Nothing more needed or should have been said. I'll give you the timing thing but really, I have to put out the "face" of my company all the time, THIS was more than enough to say what needed said!

Truly anyone upset by this is incapable of being pleased.

Ferentz is not Saban or Chizik. If he says he is staying then he is staying, simple as that. I buy the idea that it is to combat the lies spreading with recruits.

Great to hear this statement from Kirk after all these years. Rhoads wasted no time in pledging his allegiance to ISU in only 3years. I know things change but good to hear it.

I think this is a response to Coach K's departure. I'm sure recruiters are using this big time(for a first time) that coaches are leaving because Kirk plans to leave for the NFL or elsewhere.

My pulse for the Iowa program currently hinges on the reasons for Coach Kaz. departure, and we will find out in a few weeks. If we hired internally I'm very concerned. If we hired externally its understandable.

The KF statement and Coach Kaz. departure are very interesting but I feel completely related.

Making some great points Duff. Definetly scared to see what tomorrow brings.
If this is what duff says it is, then we will never know, right? (fingers crossed)

If Duff is on to something, a big empty space won't be in the paper, we'll have to read between the lines of any story put out, and we will all have to extrapolate further the catalyst behind such timing of a statement. My money is on quieting recruiting inuendos asap, in light of the recently days activities.

I'm not saying he's lying when he says he's committed here. But if he WERE considering leaving for Kansas City, he wouldn't make that public unless he'd decided to go and knew he had a place to land.

He may not be a cold-hearted assassin like Saban, but he's no idiot either.

Again, I believe he's staying. But it's not simply his word that I base my opinion upon.

I think with Norm retiring and Coach K's departure that reaches critical mass on staff movement that opposing recruiters could spin into something,so KF nipped it in the bud.

KF simply cannot satisfy some Iowa fans with anything he does now. It weird, because coaches all around the league are failing at a high rate(Brewster,DickRod,Lynch,Zook,Hope,JoePa,Tressel,Fickell) and our fans are the ones who nitpick the longest tenured coach in the league. All these programs are starting over, and their fan bases are in the dumpster(cept for Michigan) and yet ours are the biggest complainers.
