So, your response is "I have no idea what a university president does." Thanks for playing.
I don't really either. But I'm not a buffoon on the internet about it.
Shortly after I became president of the University of Iowa, I mandated training for every employee– and in 2013 we achieved 100% compliance. We began this in 2008 – six years before the federal government required all universities to do so.
...
In 2009, I created a coordinator position that reports directly to me and is charged with assuring that all departments of the university are working together to address the issue. We were one of the first universities to have such a position. We are also one of a small handful of universities to be consistently recognized by the US Department of Justice as a national model for our efforts.

I never said I didn't know what she does...
Go back to stocking fridges at Kum N Go.
You keep saying it. Over and over and over.
I think she got a retention bonus and her normal pay is more in line with $500k. But still, the whole administrative regime of these schools is bloated all to hell. It ain't far off from what has happened to hospitals. Sure, direct costs of actually providing the service go up every year, but when you get Uncle Sugar and the state government kicking in a huge percentage of the bill, you see a bunch of grifters roll in and create a bunch of ways to siphon value out.
They could hit the party school angle too.
Hospitals are an easy target, but the reality is it is an incredibly complex industry at the apex of where the public, private, and non profits sectors intersect. Plus it has outrageous regulation, huge employer in every region, delivery challenges, and on and on and on. Knock down the salaries of leadership, and if you think healthcare is a mess now, take the talent out and we're hosed.
I think the president of the UI, a world class institution, demands a $500k salary with reasonable incentives.
This is not an endorsement of Sally, but the position.
Interesting thread...
Just want to weigh in on this overused definition for the UI.
One of the criterias/factors for the Princeton Review party school rankings is alcohol/drug related arrests per capita. The fact that IC/Coralville actually enforce the public intoxication/PAULA/DUI laws actually count against the UI reputation. Ironically, if the cops would turn the other way when a group of inebriated students are stumbling down the sidewalks, our ranking would slip downward.
