Ferentz Legacy takes a big hit in the next couple years

Really is too bad as I think we all have to admit he did some good things at Iowa. Picked us back up after Hayden faded at the end. Won some championships and some big games. And remember this is Iowa and whatever you may think its not easy to recruit or win at Iowa. That being said he has stayed too long and become to inflexible and the program is headed for the bottom staring next year (we have a much more difficult schedule than the past couple of years)
Hiring and retaining Davis was the beginning of the end. Even winning 8 games we were a horrible offensive team and one that was really hard to get excited about.
I lived through 20 years of non winning at Iowa, FXL Cummings and Im afraid I'll have to make it through another down period.Sure hope its not 20 years! Dont think I have that long
 
I've heard this story before. "Iowa's headed to the bottom" then rattles off a 10+ win season and goes to a BCS game. Pre-season and future predictions are fun to discuss, but meaningless.
 
I'm usually pretty glass half full, but I have to admit, I'm concerned about next year.

Defense should be decent to good, especially if we can find interior line play and the promising young corners develop.

I really hope Stanley is the real deal (haven't seen enough to know(should have seen about 4-5 series today, but alas). Oline should be better overall. If Wadley returns we have a known weapon, if not....this is where I am very concerned.....especially if Davis is back. WR? RB?

And losing Coluzzi....could be a huge loss...no idea who else we got.

There's a lot to be concerned about next year.

The schedule includes the 2 best teams in the conference both of which have realistic national title hopes in PSU and OSU. Both of these programs, have been kicking our butts. PSU ever since Paterno retired. Then Wyoming is good and better than NDSU was this year. We also have road games at ISU, MSU, NW, Wisconsin & Nebraska.

Then everyone dismisses the major loss of our very best defensive player Jaleel Johnson. I do not care what anyone says, we have no replacement for him next year. None. Our linebackers in Neimann and Bower stink and were primarily responsible for two huge plays by FLA on the 50 yard run after failed 4th down (Neimann) and 85 yard screen pass TD (Bower). Without Jaleel we may have even more exposure at the LB spots. Then we lose King and he's a darn good player.

We have major, major issues with pass-blocking, with pass scheme wise and finding quality receivers.

Could be a 4-6 win season.

What more can you say. He IS legacy.;)

His was carved in stone long ago - It starts with, "That's football". Keep expectations low; win a few you shouldn't so that they excuse all those you shouldn't lose. Be humble and likeable so the rich rubes keep giving.

Personally, I won't think any less of him nor any more of him than I have for 10 years - the length of time I wish he was coaching somewhere else. I've grown numb to the fact that he is who he is and Iowa football will never be great while coached by him.

2012 didn't change it any more than 2015 didn't change it any more than 2002 or 2006 or 2009 or 2010. The occasional big wins and the plentiful bad losses that will inevitably come the next 9 years aren't going to change it, either.
 
Even if we had good WR's who could create separation we still wouldn't throw to them. That would gain a lot of yards and this coaching staff has made it abundantly clear they don't give two shits about scoring points.
 
It is hard to playing offense when you have 2 hands tied behind your back. When you are Alabama, you can play anyway you want almost to certain point. When you are Iowa right now, you have to out scheme your opponent...especially if they are a blue blood. That's why Chris Peterson was able to do it so many times at Boise St. Did not work out well for him against Bama, but they are damn good at the moment.

No worries.....he hasn't been in the system long enough to regress yet.
 
Yeah, Nathan Stanley is so good. He's so good that he couldn't get more than one series replacing a QB who couldn't run and couldn't throw. Other than that, I'm sure he'll step right in.

If Wadley goes to the draft, 4-8 is a real possibility.

Congratulations on a dumb comment. Ferentz never plays his backup QB's. This isn't something new and it's not a reflection on Stanley.
 
The only way that Ferentz redeems his legacy in my eyes is winning: (a) a Rose Bowl (b) a B1G Championship or (c) making the Playoffs. He could win 10 straight Outback Bowls for all I care.

Well, this time it's probably true. Would you sign with Iowa if you had any real talent? Seriously would you go to a school like even ISU with a coach who might be a gamer or to a conservative guy who won't play you even if you are better if there are any upper class me ahead of you?
 
Look, I hate Penn State like no other, the way JoePa, the administration and much of their fan base turned their backs on what was going on in the showers with young boys. My sincere wish was that the school would have gotten the death penalty, although I knew that was never going to happen with the NCAA. The sanctions largely turned out to be a slap on the wrist.

That said, I love the way their new guy coaches. He obviously has a passion for the game that rubs off on recruits and players, in practice, meetings and games. He knows the way the game is now played. He's the real deal. And he will have PSU as one of two programs to reckon with in the B1G for many years to come.

I can't say any of that about Kirk Ferentz.

Sorry, but Franklin coached the 4th quarter of the rose bowl just like Ferentz would have. They had USC on the ropes and were carving up the Trojan defense when they went all conservative and started playing not to lose. And we all know what happened, they lost.
 
When I think of KF's legacy, I think mostly of deflecting, defensive, cliches...and inept in-game coaching.

Guy has milked the cow...

Sorry, but it wasn't Franklin's coaching that sunk Pedo State. It was a redshirt freshman QB for USC that was en fuego as he broke all sorts of Rose Bowl records. I'd take Franklin's coaching every day over Ferentz and twice on Sunday.
