Ferentz in win mode, all in with Vandenberg

Shakes head.

Ferentz has made a practice of traveling QBs, and other redshirts, to games just to give them a feel of what it’s like. Vandenberg made the trip to Pittsburgh as a true freshman in 2008.
“They’ve been in the hotel every week this year, home and away,” Ferentz said of Sokol and Beathard. “They’re seeing things, processing things and going through the experience. One thing’s for sure when James graduates, somebody’s going to win that job. Just trying to prepare them.

“He’s just a freshman,” Vandenberg said. “He hasn’t hit all the hard classes yet. Eventually, he’s going to have to play and go to school and that’s not very fun.

I agree with Vandy. I just don't know how these D1 athletes can find the time for their studies (if they are in tough classes). My daughter is only D3 and is overwhelmed.

I'm glad to know that Sokol and Beathard will not have to struggle next year with things like how to order room service, you know, the things that are key to success on the football field. And we thought they weren't being prepared for next year. The joke's on us.

Are you saying that we should be playing a true frosh QB? You know that they want Sokol for two full years right?

First question - No
Second question - That's what I've read, so I've assumed that it's true, but I can't say for certain as I've not heard anything from Ferentz that specifically answers your question.

While your questions have nothing to do with what I wrote, I felt compelled to respond to them and not just leave them hanging out there, stuck in cyberspace purgatory, waiting to be answered.

No. What 99.99999% of us want is someone else to relieve JVB for a series or two in a game, or at the very least when the game is out of hand, get your backups some minutes. Rudock should be getting some snaps each game, and if he proves to be completely, utterly worthless as a QB, then you stick with JVB the rest of the way.

Sokol does have some experience as a JUCO, but it's not quite the same thing as Big10, even if it's a down year.

Just don't want to see the already built in excuse next year that we're YOUNG at key positions again. That a new QB is going to take time to break in to this league. Maybe by getting Rudock snaps now it speeds up his progress towards being a Div1 QB. If Sokol wins the job in the spring/fall by beating out Rudock, what exactly does that tell us? How could we possibly gather how good Sokol is by beating out a player who's never taken a live snap in a game? He might as well have beaten out a fan (yes that's some hyperbole). At least if we can see what Rudock can do a few times this year, see if there's any talent at all, the coaches, team, fans, etc will have some idea of what to expect going into next year.

Either way, JVB has done nothing to help us win games this year. While he hasn't been the only reason we've lost, the fact is we have lost three in a row, we're not winning anymore games with this strategy. Play the backups and get them experience.

Any other coach at any level of football would do this. You have to rember that if you have a coach who is delusional and is bullet proof, this won't happen.

Ferentz in "Win Mode"? Haha, give me a break. Saying "I want to win" doesn't mean you're doing everything you can to get the team a win.

I want to win too, Kurt.

Have I added any wins with that statement?

McCann played over Banks
Christiansen played over Stanzi
JV Plays over Rudock

Cant we at least have a chance to see the back up because the starter is killing us.
He is the 15th in the Big 10 in passing Td's. That means 3 teams have 2 guys with more TD's than JV
