Feels like the Ferentz era has come full circle

Ferentz started at Iowa losing badly to Nebraska with an undermanned team and 13 years later it would seem as if nothing has changed. Couldn't be more sad.

Couldn't be more frustrated with the loss on Friday.. not because we lost but because we failed to even fire a shot! I feel like half of our team didn't even show up. I would hope that Kirk and KOK are completely embarrassed but my guess is they really don't care..that's football ya know?

When you look back at the Ferentz era you have to wonder how it is that he squandered the success of 2002-2004? More recently KF teams have won 7 regular season games or less - 5 out the last seven seasons! Next year looks promising to extend that mediocrity.

But wasn't he just in the Orange Bowl? How quickly you forget!...... 2009 was a fortuitous season of epic proportion. We could easily have lost 5-7 regular season games that year if not for some crazy luck. That season was only satisfying when it was over and in retrospect.

I have stated this before and will again. Were it not for some fortunate match-ups in the last three bowl games (including amazing luck last year) that we managed to win, I think KF would already be gone from Iowa. I'm pretty certain that his luck has run out and that Iowa will be looking for a replacement after the end of next season.

No way.... Barta made a mistake and hes locked up way too long. We could not afford the buyout to let him go.

Arrrggghhhh! How many times do I have to tell you!

KF's record - 3 years 7 or less wins 3 years 8 or more wins. This isn't full circle it is a recurring pattern.

We are just at the start of the the third down cycle.

6-3 in Bowls
2 Big Ten Titles
2 BCS appearances
1 BCS win
99-65 record

Just a hell of a lot to be sad about, don't we?

Those 'Titles' were 8 and 10 years ago, Sport. One of those BCS games was 10 years ago.... the most recent one was nice but not that impressive given the total of circumstance.

Getting hammered again by Nebr is sad for our program.

Just to clarify: if we win it's because of luck and if we lose it's because of poor coaching?

Personally I think your whole premise is just a coincidence. If we would have played Nebby each of the last 10 years, we probably would have won 6 of them. We're having a down year and they're above average this year.

We didn't get hammered by Nebraska on Friday. I was there. At no point of that game were we overwhelmed by their talent.

Our offense stinks... It's that simple.

I agree. Our Offensive line, particularly in the first half, dominated. Our skill players just didn't make any plays. Our defense played well, but was on the field too long to be any more effective than it was.

Nebraska was supposed to win the Legends and contend for the BCS this year. They were at home. This was a rebuilding year for us. Realistically looking at the schedule coming into this year, no many had us winning this game.

And are you seriously trying to undermine how great a team we had in 2009? We got lucky in games with some magic, sure. BUT, good teams create their own luck. That was such a talented team, especially defensively.

2 teams with similar talent... We lost this one. Won't lose them all.

Offense was the key. Ours stunk and nebraska's was OK.

don't be a dbag, sporto.

Yup, going 1-10 and going 7(possibly 8)-5 is totally the same thing. I see your point exactly, and I am not being sarcastic.

You’re being a hypocrite here. Bringing up what happened seven years ago, but pointing out to another poster that our last Big 10 titles were 8 and 10 years ago. If the past is irrelevant, then recent past is all that matters and the last 3-4 years haven't been bad at all. Last year we underachieved, but this year was expected to be a rebuilding year.

We could have lost 5-7 games……but we didn’t. That is because we had guys make plays when we needed them. There’s no such thing as luck, so quit acting like destiny smiled on us.

How was last year amazing luck in our bowl game match-up? We played a team that won more games, had a more prolific offense and probably a better defense and yet we won. Your whole opinion that we have been nothing but lucky is just bunk.

I have been reading quite a bit this weekend about how the Orange Bowl win is not that impressive.

Real pathetic coming from your own fan base. Talk about myopia.

I'm sick of hearing about this rebuilding crap. We are 13 years into the Ferentz era. We should at the point where we are reloading every year. If we are rebuilding then that speaks great volumes about this coaching staff and it's ability.

This is one thing that has really hurt us. For some reason attrition is worse here than most places.

I disagree with the post saying we are entering a downward cycle. This year was probably the valley and next year should be better. Iowa entered this season last in the Big 10 as regards returning experience. (And we were 118th in the nation!)

Even at that, we are a triple overtime game and a missed field goal away from playing for our 10th victory in a bowl game. People need to consider how much the coaches achieved with one of the most inexperienced teams in the country.

Can't happen when the sky is falling. Better not worry about that and just run and hide.

Yep, because schools should be able to easily replace SIX three year starters on defense and one of the best QBs in school history and not miss a beat.

Pick a lane: was the 2009 team good or great?

Great teams don't need to create so much luck.

Srsly? In 2008, LSU went 8-5 (3-5 SEC). They were in Les Miles 4th year.

The biggest problems of fan malcontent this year are the losses to two terrible teams in MN and ISU and a putrid offense during the NE game. I think most fans feel we were out-coached in those games.

I will accept the fact that ISU beat a darn good OK St. team, so anyone could argue that ISU is not a bad team. But......
