Fant

During his post-game interview, he stated that his plan right now is to come back. It all depends upon how he grades out with the NFL scouts.

Then, when asked about Kittle, he threw in this little tidbit,

"They’re really targeting him and giving him the ball a lot,” Fant said of Kittle. “I expected that from him going into the league. It’s great to see his talents getting used. It’s good to see him flourish.”

Hmmm.

Kirk: "Noah, the consensus I'm hearing is that you'll probably be picked in the 7th round." Noah: "YES! Coach, it's been real..."

I’m surprised Fant said that. That would be huge. I think next year has the potential to be our best defense since 1981. That DL has a ton of talent with Eppy, A Nelson, Golston, Reiff, Lattimore, and Nixon. The coaches are also high on Tyler Linderbaum. Golston doesn’t get enough praise. He’s just blown up the opposing OL a few times.

Fant is really in the drivers seat in my opinion and in a win/win/win situation. He has the luxury of really being picky as to where he goes. I think it is feasible that if he grades out and the chances of him being drafted by a team that isn't in a good place or doesn't have a history of using a TE he will be back and roll the dice with the team next year. He would then have a good prediction of where he would have potentially gone in the draft and can buy an insurance policy for injury etc, Then if he comes back with Hockensen the pressure to perform isn't there either because you have another stud to split receptions with so even if he doesn't have awesome stats he has all the film and can show how Hock did with his on the other side. It also gives him another year to work on his blocking

It is my opinion that Hock is in better NFL ready position anyway just from his blocking. His athleticism is not too far behind Fant as it is right now but his blocking is far superior and his hands are better I think. In a way I think KF was right when he said Fant was more of a specialist and in order to succeed in the NFL right away he will need to find a really good fit for his style of play which is more finesse and a pass first offense. Would Fant be an every down TE?

I think Hock has the greater flexibility to be successful anywhere in the NFL especially with the traditional play action style offense because his blocking is so good if he can sell it like Kittle does and Clark did on the Play Action plays he could really be lethal fro a variety of teams

He gone. His measurables alone will put him in the top 3 rounds. And in a year we'll be talking "what ifs" about him even more than we do about Wadley now. NFL coaches don't have lifetime contracts, so they don't have the luxury of getting offended by tweets. They have prima donnas who won't even stand for the anthem and they can flip off the HC if he says something. BTW, that's why KF was never a threat to leave Iowa for the NFL. There's not enough money in the Universe to get him to put up with the entitled personalities of spoiled multi-millionaires.

He is going to grade out well. I want Hock and Fant both back, but I am not expecting it. Just one coming back would make a world of difference.

Really am curious as to why Fant was hardly used vs NW but used a lot vs Illinois. Have a feeling BF sat KF down and told him to play the kid or talent will not come to Iowa. Think KF has a hard on for anyone who questions him including Fants family

Fant had an excellent block on at least one of the TD runs, might been Young in the third quarter.

Here is a direct quote from the dean of Division 1 college coaches.

"I don't know if there were any major conversations, but we're a better team, obviously, when our tight ends are involved."..."Noah had a good week. The plan worked out well today and it was good to see him involved."

If Fitz had the slightest inkling that certain defensive formations would eliminate Fant from the field altogether, then bravo to him.
But it begs the question. When were the coaches going to have one of those "major conversations" about Fant's playing time. And could they please make sure he's on the field as often as possible as home state Nebby.

No doubt!!!

Fant & Hockenson with TD's today........too bad the 49er's aren't playing today or we could have gone for a triple play.
